Agree with banning of sponsorships and being part of AFL coverage.Betting companies should be banned from advertising (anywhere - TV, internet, newspapers), and banned from sponsoring sporting teams or competitions. In other words, they should be treated exactly the same way that cigarette companies are now treated.
Why should they be allowed to "advertise generally"?Agree with banning of sponsorships and being part of AFL coverage.
And I am quite active with a few betting accounts.
They should be allowed to advertise generally though.

I think they should be subject to the same advertising restrictions as cigarette companies.
I have no issue with them being allowed to operate. People have been gambling for thousands of years, and I see no reason or benefit in trying to prevent that from happening (problem/addicted gamblers aside). Those who are able to "gamble responsibly" should be allowed to do so.
The world would almost certainly be a better place if all of those were banned... but I'm not proposing that we should go that far.Ban fast food advertising? Alcohol advertising? Ban sugar advertising? Where do you draw the line.
Goodwin's behaviour has always been a bit questionable.
Back in the mid 2000s I was told a rumour that came directly from someone within the SA footy media that Goodwin had a younger girlfriend in Melbourne who he regularly caught up with when the Crows played over there.
I don't know too much more than that other apparently a lot of the players and officials knew and turned a blind eye to it.
As they should, if someone has a girlfriend (or boyfriend) in every city they play AFL games so be it. Having club officials saying who you can and can't spend time with would be disastrous.
The issue was that he had a wife and kids at home in Adelaide and rules were apparently bent in certain circumstances.

It shouldn't be an issue - however - when your colleagues / teammates are aware of it, and they know your spouse, you are creating a tension / conflict for them. Even if they manage to "stay out of it" and not say anything (to either you, or your spouse). You are implicitly asking them to "cover for you" and that's not fair. I can see where it might be an issue, especially in a close-knit team environment. It's an interesting rabbit hole. Should infidelity be an issue in a professional capacity and once more - where do you draw the line?
The brooms are out as we speak.Going to be interesting to see how the Victorian media play this. Will it be a constant for the next few weeks? Will they attack Melbourne at all costs like they did with us? Or will it be forgotten in two days as they sweep it under the carpet?
Harsh as it sounds, so what.
Not an illegal activity and if it doesn't impact his onfield performances club officials should keep their noses out.
Would you like your boss to police who you spent time with?
They're not allowed to bullshit on about the camp anymore so they gotta let drop the next in line.So someone's been sitting on this Melbourne story for how long now?

"I wonder what Josh Jenkins has to say about this?"

Yeah, seems pretty pointless now. What do they expect will happen? Melbourne sack Goodwin? He just won them their first flag in 50+ years.
He could turn up at their next board meeting, climb onto the table, take a dump on it then walk out without saying a word and they wouldn't sack him. Hell, they'd probably very carefully scoop up the turd and put it on display in the club museum.
