He has zero charisma…none, not even a little bit.

That doesn’t mean you can’t or won’t be successful, but it’s a big disadvantage during sh*t-hitting-the-fan times.
He was our best ever captain according to Neil

He’s a jerk, and was when he played. Remember that time when he threatened a journalist after a mad Monday drinking session? Shoved him against a wall, arm across his neck, threatening all manner of harm

The only news is that he’s still the same and hasn’t grown out of it?

Melbourne coach crisis: Simon Goodwin’s alleged expletive-laden rant at club doctor

Premiership coach Simon Goodwin delivered an abusive, expletive-riddled tirade to Melbourne’s senior doctor in a bid to pressure him not to rest concussed player Angus Brayshaw, the medico alleged in legal papers.

The fiery exchange allegedly took place after Goodwin questioned long-time club head doctor Zeeshan Arain’s advice that Brayshaw needed to go home “following an exacerbation of his concussion symptoms”.

“Are we f--ken fair dinkum,” Goodwin was alleged to have asked Dr Arain.

“Why the f--k would you change the plan when we agreed he could push through his comfort zone. F--king (player’s name) was at Chadstone with his mates last Thursday but is f--ken concussed today.”

The alleged conversation was included in legal documents lodged with the Melbourne Football Club by Dr Arain’s lawyers as part of an unlawful dismissal dispute in October 2020.

That’s not abusive

Being frustrated is one thing. What I want to know though, is when did this take place and what was the outcome? Did Brayshaw sit out? Was his concussion symptoms reported and did he go through the full protocols, or was the doctor ignored?
The answers to these questions are critical.

I'm kinda on Goodwin's side in this debate

Not sure an expletive laced tirade is a winner in any debate

Goodwin's issue - as I read it- is that a medical plan was agreed to and - somehow the doctor felt the plan needed changing.

If that's because Brayshaw hit Chaddy with his mates is not the doctors problem but Goodwins.

An assessment was made and the doctor got bolloxed for it

Whoever leaked the Melbourne bullying story is absolutely kidding themselves if they think Melbourne would sack their first premiership coach in 60 years over this

I hope they do for the storyline though. To sack the coach who broke the "Norm Smith" curse after winning a premiership is poetic.

That won't happen. This is "news" a year old. Melbourne have already had the review, cleared him of bullying, and decided that drinking and gambling with the boys is not sacking material.

One has to wonder why there is a big fuss now, 12 months after.

Speculatively, I think its pretty safe to say it occurred in 2017 when Goodwin came to the club. The article mentions a plan and a return to training (which presumably would mean missed games). He played all games in 2018/2019. Played all the games in 2020 up until foot surgery ruled him out.

So to me it sounds like 2017 when he was dealing with his potential career ending concussions (I believe he had 4 in the space of 12 months). He played rounds 1 & 2. Then played rounds 21,22,23.

The only reports of missed training I could find is when he hurt his elbow smothering a kick in preseason 2020 (and he had a huge brace on it). I don't think there was any wrong doing here with regards to player care and if there was - the Dr would presumably be in as much strife as Goodwin since it occurred in 2017 and he used in a 2020 grievance claim.

To me the situation just screams that we are in the middle of a really slow sporting news cycle.

It makes sense. It comes as no surprise that Goodwin was under massive pressure to retain his job at the end of 2020. He led a massive resurgence for the club to go from 11th before he got there to 5th and a prelim within 24 months. The next two seasons he failed to make the finals and questions were being asked.

Its a beautiful bit of click bait "journalism". Its a dramatic headline "Premiership coach almost sacked before grand final triumph".

I think we'll see many more of these Melbourne stories as more and more people push for football clubs to become safe work places.

And sure fair enough outside of the football side, we don't need accountants shouting at the marketing department or whatever.

But I don't know, it's elite sport and the pressure is high, I expect people are going to have heated conversations.

If we won a premiership, as a supporter and member, I'm not too worried if a few feelings get hurt along the way.
