We (SEN) surveyed the masses in our AFL Fan Survey and after thousands of votes we have a clear fan-favourite for just that! ....ICR if the number surveyed was 6K or 60K ?

If Tasmania is No.19, where should AFL team No.20 be?

Darwin – 55.3%
3rd West Australian team – 15.9%
Canberra – 14%
3rd South Australian team – 10.3%
3rd Queensland team – 2.8%
3rd New South Wales team – 1.7%

A third team in Western Australia was the next most selected response, closely followed by the nation’s capital Canberra.

Given the enormous wait list for West Coast memberships and the consistently strong crowds across what was a dismal 2023 season, there is clearly enough interest for a third team in W.A

Wouldn't the smart move be to get rid of a Vic team or GCS and make it 18 teams.

This indeed would be the smart move .....I'm of the belief the AFL Commission is not pre-disposed to making tough calls ....it's developed a public service mentality

Would prefer to get back to 18, then 16 teams, with proper home & away season.

Would stop watering down the talent pool .....an elite competition, with our population, should be 18 .....best of the best

Too many mediocre players getting games at present

Darwin is also a really strange response. The entire population of the NT is less than half that of Tasmania, and Darwin itself is half that of Geelong.

Perth has more than 10x the population of Darwin and is the obvious choice

I watch every game, every week, due to my fantasy involvement ......but many of the Fantasy Community openly say, they wouldn't watch games if not for this involvement

LOL ....you end up watching players NOT games .....so it eases the pain of watching players / teams not able to execute the basics of the game .....and decision making, don't get me started on that topic

And what about those who want a team in Canberra 🤣

NT should continue to get a couple of games scheduled there, but don't warrant a team.

Canberra already get GWS games & this makes sense, rather than their own team.

We really need to reduce the Melbourne teams, either folding or merging. The ones relying on the most funding from the AFL should be targeted.

Having 16 teams, AFL reserves, bigger lists & 30 game home & away system.

I would give the Victorian teams 6-8 years and fold the one with the most debt after that time

Fold/merge the ones which have had the most AFL funding over say the last 5 years.

Div 2 for the minnows and low interest clubs:
Tasmania, Darwin, Canberra plus North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Gold Coast, GWS, St Kilda and Port. Throw in a 3rd WA team to make it an even 10.

Div 2 premier plays the Div 1 wooden spooner for promotion

I'm not going to get anyone agreeing with me here, but people have been saying "the game isn't what it used to be" since Adam was a boy.

Everyone looks to the good old days, but it's just nostalgia.

You may not like the increased focus on team defense and discipline, but it's not like we don't have fantastically skilled footballers today, and the average footballer is vastly better than the average footballer of the past.

Given that WA fans support West Coast or Freo, where would a 3rd team get a decent supporter base?

Vastly fitter but I wouldn’t say vastly skilled.
A lot of us mean the game isn’t the same because of the rule changes made, not the tactics being utilised.
