Should be, but has thrown out some upsets in my short lifetime. From what I can remember in the last 20 years.
Port def. North 2005
WB def. Coll 2006
Coll def. Adel 2008
(Carl five point loss to Sydney 2010)
Carl def. Rich 2013
North def. Rich 2015
WCE def. Port 2017
Coll def. WCE 2020

Seven in 18 seasons is more than 33% win rate which is remarkably high for the team that's meant to be purely making up numbers.
Is the percentage of wins really that unexpected though?
When you've got a better team against a lesser team (but not significantly lesser) then a percentage win from the lesser team of about 1 in 3 seems about right to me from an estimation perspective.

Hard to see it being anything other than a Geelong v Sydney grand final. Pies and Dees are both banged up, Lions are unreliable and Freo aren’t ready. Swans will put up a good fight but the Cats are comfortably the best team in it this year

We were all saying the same in 2012, Hawks too good for the Swans.

That's probably correct, but I thought Sydney were the most impressive team from the weekend. I can definitely see a version of a Geelong vs Sydney final where the swans out-pressure and run Geelong off their feet.

Another Geelong GF/PF loss would be amazing for lols. However they're miles ahead of anyone else this season and deserve it.
However my personal no.1 right now is Sydney. I can't think of two better run clubs than the Cats and Swans.

10/10, would read again 👍

Let me set the scene.

You’ve just won an absolute nail biter Elimination Final and how you celebrate is coming to the 17th placed board to gloat.

Imagine living so rent free in an entire supporter base’s head despite being one of the worst teams of all time.

Freo with a win last night and now their AFL listed players at Peel are putting Swan Districts to the sword. Up by 70 points at half time.

Sturt, who I don’t think has played an AFL game this year, has 4.1. Blakely and Crowden each have 21 touches. Erasmus 14 touches and a goal. Hard to stomach but their list depth is miles ahead of ours.

Logue , Lobb and Acres unsigned so they're got some pretty good replacements .
SD have players out and Sam Fischer hurt his ankle in first 5 minutes so Swannies had no chance even Perth would have put us to the sword !!

Apparently Sturt was this 👌 close to getting delisted, so I wouldn't pipe up too much about him finally doing something.

Everything else I agree with, but that's what you get for missing finals for 6 years and rebuilding with top end talent.

Whilst we've missed finals for 2 seasons now and look to be dragging it out.

There’s also a contradictory claim on here that bottoming out for too long and losing your established players is a surefire way to become a basket case.

So people on here will say either “of course they’re now good, they were perennial losers” or “something something Melbourne losing culture Jack Trengove” depending on whether it suits their narrative.

Enjoy. It really was a roller coaster.
But be honest if it was the other way around you guys would of been way worst then how we were last night. Image if we went 1-41 in a final for a quarter and a half. It really was funny viewing watching it.

Good comeback though. Give you guys credit for that. Not easy to do.

Cant see it happening soon. We're a LONG way off the pack at this point.

I would have thought it was a limp rollercoaster compared to valleys and heights traversed on the cockburner board last night.

Oh I bet it was! One of the perks of being at the ground is not being tempted to enter gameday threads

one minute before the season ended one team was in the 4 and one outside the 8. Very predictable outcome but the journey was unusual.

You mean like how more than half their 2018 grand final game day thread got removed after we won? They were celebrating just like we were last night, but the thing is, we can have a laugh about the next day. They just delete most of it and pretend it never happened.

I think sydney are every chance of beating Geelong if it is a swans and cats GF.

Don't forget that richmond lost to collingwood in the Prelim in 2018 after having the week off

Sydney looked the most impressive team on the weekend. Which is saying something, fantastic weekend of footy
Tom Hickey will by flipping the bird at us for trading him to Sydney. We could not have Hickey, Vardy, Nic Nat and Bailey Williams all in the same squad. Too many talls

Thanks for the read! Good onya to the couple of posters who spotted the comeback midway through the 2nd.

Good luck with the Rebuild/non rebuild thing Nisbett alluded too for the coming years.
