Dermie? He's just doing it to rile bomber fans up. Have a laugh, move on. He knows his footy though.

The whole thing that an opposition player must return the ball centimetre perfect,or risk a 50 metre penalty is a croc. An opposition player should be required to play the ball on the ground. AFL players struggle to hit a target by foot from 20, yet we expect a player to handball/throw on target. It's a lot of piffle.
I'd far rather the occasional frustrating fifty than the tedious horseshit infesting soccer, with players hanging onto the ball, throwing it over or around the recipient, or insisting on placing it exactly where they feel the free should be, all to run a few seconds off the clock or give the defence time to settle. There has to be some sort of penalty.

Whilst I still expect a Hawthorn win.. I thought the line of 80pts was generous given how many outs/rested players Hawks have.

Still 7-8 players to come into this line up.

Hawks, right now, are beatable though.. going to be a tight run thing this year. Sydney has to be odds on at this moment.

So Damien Hardwick?

I get the feeling that we are looking at what we would have been like if Knights had stayed around. Almost impossible to reel in once going but the easiest side in the AFL to pick apart.

The indictments on him are probably threefold.

1. There is no on-field leadership: it doesn't doesn't necessarily take a coach to work out that not tagging Watson doesn't mean that he is just left in yards of space at stoppages (of all places).

Giving Carlisle his wet-dream of playing loose man across half back is just crazy. It is not the first time this sort of thing has happened, they let a number of wins slide last year late in games when they should have killed those games with numbers in defence.

On-field leadership is controlled by a coach by the development of the players and his ability to implement plans/structures that take decision making out of the equation (Ross Lyon coached sides basically have a play for every scenario in a game).

2. They are structurally awful: virtually no ability to defend the ground.

Even more absurd is the way they leave Riewoldt to be double teamed, it is almost as if they are trying to prove to Riewoldt that he should not play as a deep forward.

Good forwardlines are built around a spearhead or two with two or three other players who on any given day are capable of kicking the 5 goals you need them to kick to win the match. These other players virtually do not exist without the spearheads absorbing an opposition defender or two and creating space in the process.

3. Match day coaching is pretty bloody awful: see point 1.

If Ben Griffiths wants to plod around the centre of the ground without an opponent it is simple, sub him off at quarter time and make sure that the 21 other players out there understand that accountability is more than a buzz word that might appear on a white board before a match.

I am not sure that list management is completely the responsibility of a coach in this day and age but he has to have some involvement. This fourth area looms as the biggest of all the problems.

Great post Bruno. It's funny watching Greenwood tonight, he's exactly what Matt Thomas could and should have been at Richmond if his team mates pulled their fingers out and showed some leadership.

And we had another of this silly 50m penalties in the WC VS North game. It's a farce of a rule and an embarrassment. Yet - Heads over the ball are now open slather - It's a joke.

I love how Hawthorn think that they're a big club because they have so many bandwagon members. Do you know the last time Essendon had a crowd in Melbourne under 20k? 1996, Fitzroy's last year. Also, since 1987 (as far back as footywire goes) Essendon haven't produced a crowd of less than 20k at the 'G. Minnow club

What was the crowd today?
