"I vote Liberal, I vote labor"

Many people have died to keep Australia a democracy. To decide you are a labor supporter or Liberal supporter before you even hear the manifesto of each side means that you spit in the face of those that fought for you!

Look at all the left wing Labor supporters that voted Keating in. A man with more right wing policies than many a Liberal leader (privatisation etc). But they voted him in because they were 'labor' supporters. When will people learn to read and listen and then make their choice rather than labeling themselves. It's your countries future your voting for, not a bloody footy match!

Shane Warne has proven to be better than Abdul Qadir who was the best leg spinner the world has seen. He is the best.
McGill is a good leg spinner but not yet anywhere near the same class.
I would also suggest that his body language is that of a sulky, miserable and nasty person.

What about Clarrie Grimmett Frodo? Hes got a pretty good record hasn't he? and "Tiger" O'Reilly?

For the record - good on the selectors - Bracken has been the only left-armer even half-performing in ONE-DAY cricket. Good to try someone different.

It's getting a bit too political but I have to agree with Easty (makes it a special post).

The only reason for people wanting to say 'sorry' for the stolen generation is political. There can be no doubt that the actions taken by Australian governments several decades ago were not aimed at stealing and certainly did not cover a generation. An attempt was made to integrate some aboriginal children into Australias mainline multicultural society and in each case the parent(s) agreed to the adoption. Whether or not this experiment was appropriate by todays standards is irrelevent. It was seen to be correct then and in no way should we try to apologise for our forefathers who were certainly doing what they thought was best for these children at the time. Integration of aboriginal Australians into mainstream Australia is vital to the health, well being and future of these poor people. Their standards of living, health and life expectancies are so low that it is a disgrace. The root cause of this is the divisiveness of successive governments (mainly labor). They seek to make special cases of aborigines and perpetrate the mind festering belief that the white man is bad and has stolen what belongs to the aboriginal. Whilst it may be argued that there is some basis to that thought the effects on the minds of generations of aboriginals is so negative that only distrust, greed and hatred exists. Only when the divisiveness stops can the negativity stop. Then we can become one nation with good health, welfare etc being enjoyed by all.
Saying 'sorry' would mean nothing, do nothing and be nothing. The problem would remain as it is today.

inness doesnt deserve a spot in the aussie one day side

he doesnt play for victoria
and he isnt a good one day bowler

a great test hope yes, but not one dayers

perhaps dale, flemming, or kaspa could have been ahead of bracken but i think a left hander could add a bit to the side

I agree totally with this post. The selectors seem more than willing to pluck NSW players from obscurity but are not so keen on other states players. Ian Healy was a good example of another state player making it after just a handful of Shield matches. Some of the NSW gambles have payed off big time, McGrath and Brett Lee hadn't played a lot of cricket before making it. Michael Slater also and Peter (Who) Taylor in the one day side. There have been a few bad NSW selections though. I think if he continue to slect players who play one or two good Shield matches for NSW then sooner or later you will pick a winner. Law of averages. There must be many many good players from other states that would have made it if given the same opportunities as the NSW players.

Having said all this, there is a cricket board out the front somewhere. I think you took a wrong turn at Alburquerque.

On the point of saying sorry:

The Australian government mistreated Aborigines for at least three quarters of a century, so the present Australian government should apologise on behalf of the Australian government of that time. The problem has been that people tend to view an apology as meaning a personal one from the prime minister, when it should come from an act passed through parliament.

Reconciliation has to begin with an admission of guilt.

And anybody doubting the extent to which the aborigines were mistreated should read Capricornia by Xavier Herbert. Great book written in the 1930s by the guy who was responsible for protecting the aborigines in the north.

Keating was the greatest Prime Minister we've ever had.

The current Liberal Government should say sorry for the way previous Liberal Governments have treated the Aborigines.

How would you feel if one day you came home in the evening only to discover that a policeman had come around to your house and ABDUCTED your children ?

no beg pardons, no explanantion given, no chance of ever ever seeing YOUR CHILDREN ever again.

How would you feel ? I know how I would feel - I would feel like a victim of state sanctioned terrorism and I would be demanding an apology and compensation.

Devo - you are a legend

Thats why John Howard doesn't like living here, it goes against everything he believes in...Menzies, Hitler, black suppression, the great white race.

Kill all Liberals

DEVO

P.S isn't it amazing how far from the original topic we have drifted, but it seems to be the case with every topic raised.

Ha ha ha this explains so much about our slow friend Easty.

tigertank, I agree, those 2 turkeys are morons, killing all liberals ? labour were worse than any liberal party when they were in charge !

Just for the record i see Bracken was smashed around a bit (as were others) by the Vic 2nd 11 side, good to see Matty Elliott back, PS Ill consider voting liberal when they have a leader who considers all Australians and not just the top end of Sydney!

IF that EVER happened you would be entitled to an apology and compensation from the Government of the time. But the ancestors of those that perpetrated that act would bear no responsibility at all and should not have to apologise or pay compensation. Or are todays German youth responsible for Hitlers treatment of the Jews? Are todays Roman citizens responsible for the deaths of thousands in the Gladatorial arena's ?
We do not understand how people thought in ages gone by, our ethos difers incredibly. We cannot apologise for something we did not do or on behalf of those who are not here to explain their actions and ethos.

As a weak adjunct. Should todays aborigines say sorry for all the white people they 'eat'? (aboriginal cannabilism is a historical fact unlike the policeman story which may have happened in an odd instance but was not normal practice)

Again Frodo - you fundamentally mis-understand what this 'apology' is all about.

Its not a Personal apology we are on about here. To again use my example (which by the way is indisputable historical FACT - just read the report OK ? - its all there in stark black and white)

If my children had been abducted by an agency of the state (in this case a policeman) then of course I would looking at this government for an apology.

This abduction was GOVERNMENT POLICY not like the common criminal law where the individual is responsible. In this case the individual is acting as an agent of the state, so it is the state that bears responsibility - not the individual.

And, as we all know, the state is a continuim, passing from one elected representative to another. Governments come and go but the state remains constant. So, by implication, the state in the present bears responsibility for the actions of the state in the past because they are the same thing.

Oh and I am sooo glad you have raised the example of the Germans. Of course today's Germans bear no INDIVIDUAL responsibility for the Nazi regime - BUT Germany has realised that it was the German State that was responsible for this.

Thats why the Germans (unlike Australia) have faced up to their grisly past and have apologised and paid compensation accordingly.

You see, the Germans realise that there can be no reconciliation and no progress untill history is fully acknowledged, wrongs are admitted and redemption by way of compensation fully entered into.

a lesson Australians have yet to learn - denial is the dominant mindset here.

As for cannibalism - please show me where you have hard irrefutable evidence that just one single Aboriginal person killed and ate a European settler.

please - I would really like to know.

"aboriginal cannibalism is a historical fact?"

what a joke - your name wouldn't be Frodo Hanson would it?

Mature governments do have to take some responsibility for the sins of past lawmakers particularly when many of those ill conceived policies were active policies only a generation ago and when the consequences of those policies continue to affect aboriginal people. To heal those wounds we have to show some genuine compassion now.

Noone is suggesting full reparation - all that is being suggested is that people open up their hearts.

Why are people so frightened by an apology, will it lead to more claims? i doubt it, i cant see white judges in Australia caring one way or the other if our PM apologises on behalf of everyone for past atrocities. All it will do is acknowledge the error of our past and help us move forward.

for gods sake, the only apology ahould have come from the government of the time, it shouldnt come from people who had nothing o do with it, , labour is a joke and bob hawke is the ultimate example of - promises everything but delivers stuff all ! keating was a powdery faced arseh*le too
