So is the general consensus that cutting will play and Richardson is only there as cover.

As for maxwell, he's not international standard, I'm not a Steve smith fan by any means, but smith's probably a better batsmen, and doesn't bowl rubbish nude balls.
Come to think of it, smith is probably a better fielder, as good as maxwell is.

Not surprised he got a call up, he's been pretty impressive in the Big Cash league.

The fact the game is in Adelaide might have helped him, along with the Strikers being knocked out, but I think he would have been called up sooner rather than later anyway.

I honestly believe it's only a matter of time before Maxwell gets the 'Steve Smith' treatment from the public.

I'm backing Smith in to have a very good limited overs career for Australia, mind. Prove them wrong Steve. :thumbsu:

Maxwell needs to be more patient with his batting to become a high quality International player. He has the talent (similar to Johnson) but he's a bit too impatient. It's all in the mind for him

Agreed, as I said the other day, it's almost as if he's heard so much talk of him being 'a slogger' that he has convinced himself that he is just that and that he must live up to that reputation.

Depends on the role. If Smith plays he has to bat in the top 5, otherwise I'd go Maxy

I think smith can slot in at 6 and play as a genuine all rounder, ideally I'd like to see him bat for a while and build and innings, but I think his ideal role in the one day setup is bowling his 8-9 overs and playing some big shots late in the innings.

and there is the reason i'm sick of sticking people like smith and maxwell into that 'x-factor role'. doesn't do them any good

It's very good for him, but the fact the game is in Adelaide was certainly the deciding factor.

I assume you have seen a lot more of him than I have, can you give a bit of a run down on the type of player he is? Pace, swing, aggression etc? And why has this limited overs form not seen him take the Shield in a similar manner?

Easily the most impressive short format quick outside of the known quantities, and very young at 21, huge future imo.

His bowling is a step up from NCN's imo, he's genuine express, and has a very good yorker. He's swung the brand new white ball every time I've seen him.

Not too dissimilar to Pat Cummins, a touch slower, and less bounce, but the same frame etc.

Would just be about my first picked quick, besides Starc, for the Australian T20 side.

It ruined Cameron White as well IMO

You don't watch him ODD cricket obviously. His ideal role is to bat at 5, and come in before the 30 over mark and build an innings before he starts slogging. He needs to bat at 5 if he's in the ODI side

What a joke.

Remember when bringing in some depth quicks meant Bichel Kasperwicz Bracken.
Well that's partly because of injuries.

Say or best attack is Siddle, Pattinson, Starc.

Depth we have is Hilfenhaus, Johnson, Bird, Cummins, Harris etc.

It is pretty safe to say our fast bowling attack is in a better place then our batting.

After his test matches. Bird couldve surely been picked ahead of him.

I think Hilf and Harris are done. On a different matter.

Harris yeah probably, but remember the 2009 Ashes Series? Hilfenhaus was our best bowler, his bowling suits the English wickets. Should probably make the squad at least.

True but i think that Siddle Pattinson Bird Starc Cummins are all ahead of him at the moment. Possibly he and Mitch Johnson are on that next peg down.

Why would Cummins be ahead of him? One Test, only four First Class games, and also has no recent FC form. Cummins is still all promise, with little proven form and no proff of being able to come back from time off.

Harris is proven, and I would have him in the Ashes squad so long as he shows decent form in the second half of the Shield - but he won't have enough match time behind him to go to India. He was arguably our bets bowler pre-injury, only Siddle would definitely be ahead in my view (obviously depending on form on his return to red ball cricket).

Everyone thought Hilf was done before last summer as well when he ended up being our best bowler. As mentioned above I'd be shocked if he didn't tour England.

He is in. Let's hope he plays well.
