Why? Gilchrist and Waugh weren't test openers?

More experience at 3 the better, these ODI's are only to give exposure/international experience to players, I'd prefer him to be a permanent no. 3 like Ponting, but I'm no selector.. Obviously.

That's such a good combination. :thumbsu:
I agree. I don't really buy into the 'Hughes should bat three in both formats' theory. I've never seen too much difference between opening and batting at three anyway for the individual. Those two will hopefully combine well but I don't see Hughes staying in once Watson, Warner and Clarke come in (although if Watson plays in the Shield for a while as Arthur said he might, an opportunity could arise if he performs). I see it as somewhat of a trial for Finch and Hughes so if one of them play particularly well, they could stay around the team.

Or you could keep both in and drop Bailey. ;)

I reckon both can stay in the side once those three return... would go something like:

Warner
Watson
Hughes
Clarke
Finch
Smith/Maxwell/Bailey/Dussey (depends who is in form and if they want an all-rounder or pure batsman)
Wade
Johnson
Starc
Mackay
Doherty

Yeah I wouldn't mind that team but I can't really see the selectors only playing one of Maxwell, Bailey and Duss.

Yeah, that's what I was worried about. Hughes and Finch both have to play though IMO. Hughes has an average of over 90 from his last 20 one day innings, with 14 innings over 50 in that time. I read that he has the 2nd highest List A average ever for Australian's, behind Bevan.

Why have the selectors always pinned him as a Test specialist? When he first hit the scene, I thought he'd first be blooded in T20s/ODIs as he's always been a very aggressive batsman and can hit the ball a long way. It's something that has never made sense to me.

And Finch has just been a gun in this format for a couple of seasons now, he deserves an extended run in the side along with Hughes. However, I know the selectors will probably play both Smith/Maxwell and Bailey/Dussey and only one of Hughes or Finch, which sucks.

The final XI for the ODI team is as follows:

George Bailey (captain) TAS
Xavier Doherty TAS
Aaron Finch VIC
Brad Haddin NSW
Phillip Hughes SA
David Hussey VIC
Mitchell Johnson WA
Usman Khawaja QLD
Glenn Maxwell VIC
Clint McKay VIC
Mitchell Starc NSW

So my batting order would be:

Finch
Haddin (wk)
Hughes
Khawaja
Bailey (c)
Hussey
Maxwell
Johnson
Starc
McKay
Doherty

Finch
Hughes
Ussie

is the top 3 of the batting lineup, according to Bailey.

So Cutting and Smith missed out. Not surprised at that at all.

Looking forward to seeing how the above three perform, especially, as they've pretty much all well and truly earned their spots in the team. It might not be the best team we could have put on the park, but that doesn't mean they won't be well worth watching.

Would rather see Ussie open and Hughes at 3

Hughes/Finch deserve there chance.. If we are looking to the next world cup how does D. Hussey and Haddin get a game. They are both Poo and wont be around in 2015!!!

Sounds like Bailey is a little pissed off at Channel 9 for fueling the perception that this is our 'B' team. It seems like there are people who simply don't realise how good Finch, Hughes and Usman are in the one day format.
