Re: Bracken should never play a Test match again

Symonds' first-class stats in Australia are poor for one of the top 7 batsmen in the country, he's made many average-boosting runs in England.

Here are his first-class stats in Australia only (since his debut in 94):
Code:
Matches	Inns	Not Out	Runs	HS	Ave	100	50	Ct
Symonds	95	156	12	5563	163	38.63	14	22	56

Hussey had what you would call a successful tour against the 'deadly' attack of the West Indies. In the first innings against the Proteas, he made 23 from 51 balls. Granted, it's a start. But nothing to rave about. He then came out in the second innings with little pressure after the Aussies had made a very solid start, and made a half century. Again a good result, but let's not get too excited.
Hodgey looked very good in the first innings and the second innings speaks for itself. However he has played two tests, and despite having just knocked up a double ton, there are some factors (eg. Clarkey re-emerging) that - should he not perform - could have him ommitted from the test side.
I'm not doubting the ability of them, I'd be stupid if i did. But i think they all need a few games together to really gel together and I'd like to see one of them really pull through in a pressure situation.
Just my opinion...

Hussey and Hodge r both averaging 80s in test cricket and show what happens when u select players who deserve selection ... Hussey might have had a successful run against a poor West Indies side, but other than Ponting and Hayden, none of the other Australian players played very well
Clarke has done ********all in test cricket since his hundred against New Zealand last summer - how does 1 Pura Cup knock since his axing ensure he re-claims his spot in the side ... As much as I think Symonds is a waste of space in the test side, I would much rather him in the test side for the next 2 tests (knowing that hell be dropped soon) than Clarke (who the selectors dropped 6 months too late)

The rest of the world refer to the first two as "the openers".

Oh, and Bracken is extremely lucky to be playing in the test side. He's obviously a stop-gap until we find somebody with some ability.

Re: Bracken should never play a Test match again

More than happy to have him in. He is a bit of variety, swings it, and is a useful batsman. Not the worst we have to offer. Bic, Kasper and Dizzy are all ahead on talent, but he has done the job thus far this season.

WIll lose his spot for Boxing Day, though.

'Apparently' this guy (even that's doubtful) is the best swing bowler in the country. Yet he doesn't swing it, are things that bad?

Well speaking from what I've seen in the domestic comp, no they're not.

The only time Rockstar 'Bracks' can swing the ball is on a pitch more juiced up than a female weightlifter. If everybody else is getting swing, then so can 'Bracks'. Which wasn't the case in the past with Australian swing bowlers with guys like Flemming swinging it on almost every surface.

The myth that Bracks is anything more than a medium pace, bowl it in the same spot every ball bowler is quite amusing to those who've seen him play. Australia have far better options than this sorry sack and it's about time they started using them.

Re: The 'I can swing the ball more than Nathan Bracken' thread

Maybe he needs a swing king....

But seriously... If he was a batsman he would be a flat track bully... so would that mean he is a green top bully???

When conditions are right he is excellent... however if they aren't, he looks very ordinary....

F/D he's 28 and done nothing.

He is nothing.

Slow and crap. Might do well in favourable conditions but that's not the test of a true bowler. There are that many better, more deserving options around the country it's not funny (but still funnier than RoosterLad).

What he took a wicket in the closing overs with a team chasing quick runs?

Wow! Stop the press! Give the guy a medal.

For Bracken's true worth check out his performance against India a couple of years ago, on his 'home ground'.

Many more deserving, yes. "Many" more better? There are some better, but not many.

Should not be in the team, but I reckon he will come good.

Oh so one poor performance by Bracken a few years ago and hes useless. Yet Pathan has conceded over 100 at almost 6 an over yet hes an absolute superstar?
