Re: Training Report: 22/12/05

Nardz, he coached group three for a time, then played.

Presti was there, Presti_God, I'll add him to the group he was in.

Richards in the injury group again.

I know. Not good, either, IMO. Unless he is just on a modified program.

As Johnno26 said at Hotrod's:

Well, Pendles was cornered by three players and tried to make a run for it - MM came in from the side. :) Not as bad as it sounds.

For a bloke known for his evasiveness, he'd normally dance around Malthouse who's known for his stubborness.

Re: Training Report: 22/12/05

Thanks Johno - keep up the reports.
it's great for interstate people like myself to get some info on pre-season training.

Re: Training Report: 22/12/05

Cheers Johnno

Great report

only bad news is Stretch.........he is vitally important next year as he can release Josh if he can stand up

hope it is only a precautionary measure!

Official Training Thread

Heading off at 8:00 am, I didn't know what to expect. It was an overcast morning with plenty of cloud cover, but I wasn't sure about the Melbourne weather. One day it is sunny, the next raining. While I was waiting I saw this dude who asked for Luke Mason, but he has gone overseas. Anyway, back to the training report...

The players came out at basically the same time, Julian Rowe was the only exception because he is carrying an injury, he stayed on the ground for a while with a trainer doing light kicking, marking, handballing drills. The players that departed early were Stanley (looks injured to me), Tarrant, who came back on the ground later on and joined the group again (looks fit). The players who weren't in attendance were Scott Pendlebury (recovering from Glandular Fever), Dane Swan, Rhyce Shaw.

The players walked onto the field, doing "kick-to-kick" drills. Rocca, Caracella and Clement were practising their gathering skills on the handball net.

The players then split into 4 groups, with the coaches in the middle. The players had to gather the fooball off the ground, handball to the coach in the middle, then kick the football to the player standing on the opposite end of the ground.
Afterwards 2 players went up for the ball, and did the same drill.
Then the players did their stretches, got a drink, some even had a little rest.

After the break, the coaches went into the middle of the ground, the players on opposite ends. The coaches would kick the ball to the players, the players then would kick the ball back to the coaches, then the coaches would handball the ball back to the player, that player would run through the middle and kick the ball to the player on the opposite end.

They did windmill stretches this time...

After the windmill stretches the players split into partners, and did "kick-to-kick" drills for 15 mins, every 5 mins they extended the distance.

The trainers brought the bags out into the middle of the field: Rocca, C3 and Cheese had the bags. One player would kick the ball over Rocca's head, and the other player on the opposite side would take the mark on the run, while laying off a handball to the player who had kicked him the ball in the first place, once he disposed of the ball he had to give a "hip and shoulder" to Rocca for protection of the player that kicked it in the first place. Sometimes this worked, sometimes it didn't.
This followed by stretches and drinks shortly after...

After drinks, they did a drill which they have done plenty of times before. The defenders would kick the ball out from the goal sqaure, the midfielders would carry the ball through the centre sqaure, and the forwards would take strong marks up the other end - vica versa.

Later on the players split into three groups: Defence, Midfield, Forward groups. I concentrated on the Defence group, coached by Gavin Brown. The defence group split into two teams, they were:
ORANGE TRAINING TOP (NEW): Walker, Anthony, Maxwell, Lonie, Morrison, C1.
BLACK TRAINING TOP (OLD): H. Shaw, Toovey, Wakelin, Prestigiacomo, Clement, Lockyer. So much experience in that team!
They played a mini-game. The idea of this game is to try and get the ball to the orange cone on the 50 arc, without making one mistake with your foot and hand skills. The player would bring the ball in from the goal sqaure. There were two halves, and you got two turns in each half to try and win points for your team. The final scores were:
Black: 5
Orange: 4
The impressive players from the Black TT team were H. Shaw (lead from the front), Clement (his usual best on the track), Lockyer (was moving very, very well). The impressive players from the Orange TT were C1 and Maxwell (both were solid in defeat).

Nearing the end of a fantastic training session: Richards, C1, Toovey, Nicholls, Egan, Walker, Thomas, Cox and Anthony ran around the boundary line once, bouncing the ball and having a good yarn at the same time. The rest of the team were doing sprints and stretches in the middle of the ground.

This was the first time I saw a lot of Cox and Toovey, and I was impressed by both. Cox has a lot of tricks up his sleeves, and Toovey is a very hard worker.

My friend also took some photos. I would show you them later on.

Signing out,

I had a pretty dodgy camera on me. I am going to buy a better camera, so next time I can take better pictures. By the way, my friend took the photos, while I wrote down the info.

Re: Training: Friday 13th January.
