Re: Training: Friday 13th January.

Does any one know of any Praccy matches as of yet? or intra-club matches ie the dates???

Wouldn't mind having a look before the season starts.

I don't know any information as of yet.

I am sure there would be some sort of information on the Collingwood website over the next 3 weeks.

Interesting comments re. Leon from DVL @ Hotrods:

What is your opinion CT??

Yeah, I noticed that too.
Leon is one of the better trainers down at Collingwood in my opinion, but he was very, very quiet yesterday. He seemed to be "lost" out on the track yesterday, which is a concern because MM made it clear that he wants to use Leon in the midfield more often this year.

I think you would find we would see the old, more productive Leon on the training track next week.

Re: Training: Friday 13th January.

I caught a bit of yesterdays session and DVL is slightly incorrect in saying that Davis didn't touch the ball during those back to forward drills , I saw him drop a standard overhead mark which completely broke up the previous slickness of the drill.

Re: Training: Friday 13th January.

Geez what a crap venue. I remember playing U13s matches at grounds with cycling tracks around the outside. From what I'm hearing the turf on that ground is uneven and browned off, and there is no shade around the ground.

I thought Lexus/Olympic/Bob Rose Park was supposed to be state of the art, because it looks nothing like it. The ground itself must be 300m from your training facilities as well. I reckon if that is the best you can do you would be better off back at Victoria Park.

I guess that 'state of the art' comment was Eddie shooting his mouth off - he has never been one to let the facts get in the way of a spin.

Of course with the re-furbishment of Waverley, Melbourne (the city) will have a state of the art training facility for an AFL team. :)

The Lexus Centre is a state of the art training complex , the oval is just a training oval- surface is reasonable- a 200m walk to the Lexus Centre is hardly an inconvenience unless you're morbidly obese.

Ventured down and had my first look at the boys in action today, and on the whole I was reasonably impressed. Let me just say though, if anyone plans on going to training while the Australian Open is on, you'll have to Park at the MCG. They wouldn't let me in to the car park at Olympic Park. Not a great start to the day dry.gif

As far as I could tell there were only a couple absentees: Leon Davis, Rhyce Shaw and maybe Dane Swan (There's a couple lads that look pretty similar to me, but I think Swanny was also absent. Of the others, only Julian Rowe, Danny Stanley and Adam Iaccobucci were on 'light duties' and restricted to the rebounder.

I know its probably fairly typical of this time of the year, but the mood and the attitude of everyone was excellent. Lots of noise and encouragement, and there was plenty of spirit shown in both the attitude and execution of the drills.

I was trying to juggle looking after my kids as well as get a decent look at things so I didn't get a look at everybody but heres a few observations, firstly of the new guys:

Thomas - A jet. Very quick and not too shy to get himself very involved in things. Needs to dd some size imo but looks good.

Pendlebury - Absent

Stanley - On the rebounder all session. Jogged a couple laps. Nothing much to say. Has decent size about him

Cook - Went ok. Looks to have pretty decent skills and his ball handling on a couple occassions looked very good.

Anthony - Didn't see a lot of to be honest, but he looks to be a goer.

Isles - Saw very little of him.

I was actually pretty impressed by all the rookies. Harry looks like he belongs out there now. Toovey got involved in contests and looked o.k. The two who impressed me were Nicholls and Cox. Nicholls is tiny, but he is bloody quick, got the pill and used it well. I saw him with the pill more often than a lot of the senior blokes. Same with Cox. Lead well, demanded the ball and didn't stop the whole session. I'd read a little about Cox being overweight and uninterested. If that was the case, he has turned it around big time. He looked sharp, reasonably fit and was very vocal and enthusiastic. Seemed to be really enjoying himself.

The senior list guys all look fit and raring to go. Without going through each player one by one, here are a few observations

Travis Cloke - A unit indeed. Brings a smile to the face.

Anthony Rocca - Looking great. Doing all the work and when I asked after training how he was travelling - "Mate, I feel bloody great"

Josh Fraser - Left earlier than the main group, but didn't look injured at all. Looks good and doesn't seem to be truggling to put weight on.

Rusling - Again, left early but didn't seem hampered. An impressive build for a youngster.

Heath - Thought Heater looked really sharp today. Trained very well

Guy Richards - Completed full training. Enough said. Thats a good sign in itself.

Struggling to think of much more at the moment, but happy to answer any questions. Generally speaking though, a pretty positive day (only training, I know)

... and he made it through a full session on Friday too.

Maybe Stretch is turning the corner!!
