Sorry to stamp on everyone here but why the **** do you think Brisbane are going to be interested in the likes of Bolton, Winderlich and Solly :confused:
Winderlich would intrest. He's just starting to come good which is why i want us to keep him.

I wouldnt want to lose Winders yet. He still has potential to become something. A couple of seasons would help me determine if he's part of our future. Like what Ive seen so far though.

Yes but people where talking about Brisbane wanting him , Brisbane already have a heap of young blokes strating to come good. Allen, Harding ,Stiller and Hooper to name 4. They wont be adding another to it.

So they won't add another youngster coming good because they already have a few? Not really getting your logic there, what's wrong with having more - partucarly when you may be about to lose one of those kids? Having said that I can't see us giving up Winderlich anyway, as his value to another club wouldn't be as high as it to us and he really was looking like he was taking that next step before fate intervened.

In regards to that proposed trade, bloody hell, we seem to give up a lot. Two senior players and a pick to grab a kid that's doing okay, and particularly to a club that you say won't be in a position of power. Melbourne gets a better return.

We are effectively trading 2-3 players who are fringe players at best for a player who could be a genuine A grade player. Also we have the capacity to replace Peverill with Jolley, losing Solly would mean greater opportunities for Nash, Bradley, Lee in the backline and Bolton would be borderline at best in terms of our list even though he has played a lot of games this year. Brisbane would be after some experience IMO as their list will be significantly younger and they will need players who are ready to play. It is why clubs recruit players like P Walsh, Guerra, Lonie, Murphy, Morrison, Montgomery, Fixter etc etc etc

Not 2 players and a pick, no way, it's ridiculous imho. Solly straight trade, or Bolton/Pev and a pick perhaps otherwise it can't be said that we're trading from a strong position as you are arguing. Anyway if you believe the paper this morning he's very close to signing with Brisbane.

its acedemic anyway as the age or hs (not sure which) has risca re-signing with the lions for 3 years

Lions face tough list calls
By Andrew Hamilton
August 15, 2006 BRISBANE Lions coach Leigh Matthews and list manager Graeme Allan face the biggest off-season headache in their eight years at the club when they sit down to decide who stays, who goes and who gets what in 2007.

The abolition of the retention allowance and the return to fitness of established stars to compete with elevated rookies for money and spots on the list ensure there are some tough calls to be made.

Potential and demand appear to be worth a greater slice of the salary cap pie than reputation.

"Best 22" is a phrase often heard in football, but Matthews admits he does not really know how to pick that at the moment.

To work it out, he and Allan face the tough task of comparing past stars who have missed a year of footy and are not guaranteed to return as good as they once were with up-and-comers who can only get better.

Premiership stars Nigel Lappin, Clark Keating, Beau McDonald, Tim Notting and Richard Hadley, plus youngsters Michael Rischitelli, Matt Moody, Justin Sherman and Cameron Wood are among the players coming off contract.

Rischitelli could be the big winner.

Out of contract and in demand by Essendon, he will be offered a hefty pay rise to stay in Brisbane - but will earn even more if he returned to Victoria.

"That is why the retention rule was put in in the first place," Matthews said.

"It is a fact of life that the main people targeted by the southern clubs will be the kids who have shifted north to play their footy.

"All that means is Michael will be a very lucky young man because he'll get paid very well next year comparative to his current levels of performance."

But elevated rookies such as Scott Harding, Cheynee Stiller, Jason Roe, Marty Pask and Colm Begley face relegation.

Harding, Roe and Stiller have been regulars this season, but the Lions will struggle to keep all three on the senior list with Lappin, Hadley and Chris Scott all set to start the season back on the senior list.

AFL rules allow for 40 players on a senior list, and two of the elevated rookies are almost certain to remain with Justin Leppitsch retired and Jason Akermanis set to part company with the club.

The rest face an anxious wait to see who stays and who goes from the current senior list.

"At the end of the year we'll have to look at our list and decide who's going to be put on the primary list, and the rookies are really only in the same category as the uncontracted listed players - they are all in the same boat," Matthews said.

"Cheynee Stiller has had a really good few months. He's looking like he can be a good senior player.

"The others have done OK. Marty Pask is showing glimpses, Scott Harding has done OK and Roe has been very good."

They didn't get that news from BigFooty did they?

Longy have you heard anything regarding Rischitelli? My Jets source is accurate but would be interested if there is anything coming from our end. Brisbane would be doing very well to retain Rischitelli I would have thought.

I'Ve got bad news guys. Article today in the Age saying that Rischitelli is set to stay a Lion and it extremely close to signing a new contract with Brisbane. This is a real shame, would have loved to have seen him in the red and black.:(

The Age also said Ricky Mott was coming to Essendon.

He wont be coming to Essendon. The bloke is running a farm and has no intention of returning to AFL football. The hoax began on this site actually...

I'm not sure Mal Michael is gonna play footy at all next year.

I'd be happy to give a draft pick for Rischitelli if our chances for him in the PSD aren't very good, he's young, has skills and experience under his belt.

thats why i left 4 question marks there.

To expand a little because they can have around 8 rookies they always have a good number of young blokes who have similar credentials to Winderlich. I have only named 4. If you want to add to it there are also blokes like Selwood, Adcock,Attard,Corrie,Drummond,Fixter,Macdonald etc plus they will more than likely have Lappin and Hadley back. The point is they will hardly be looking for another unproven midfielder when the have plenty of options already on their list.

From what i've seen of the crop of draftees coming through i really like some of the South Australian Boys.

Gibbs
Hurley
Thomas
Schmidt
Sellar

The one thing that stands out is that these guys use their heads and are very smart composed footballers. (something we really lack at the moment).
If we can pick up Schmidt and Hurley with mid to late picks. (hoping they fall through) then they'll really compliment our early picks whichever way we go.

Just cleanin up for ya:

Aker, soly -> melb
Pev/Bolts, Miller, 3rd pick, late pick -> Bris
Rischitelli -> Essendon

we give up solly, pev or bolts and a late pick? Keep Pev/bolts and it would be a deal

um why would the Dees want a 27 year old Solomon, methinks we are not looking to add a player wiht the following attributes to our list - slow, poor disposal, undersized and undisciplined?

and why would the Lions want Bolton or Peverill, junk on your list is junk on other clubs lists.

Rivers= Unaccountable
Nicholson= MIA
Carroll= One year wonder?
Holland= Questionable body

I would not have thought there is too much difference between solomon and miller. Oh yeah except Solomon is genuinely tough and played in a premiership side. Do you remember?
Peverill and Bolton would play a lot of games at Brisbane IMO. The only reason we would trade Pev is because we have a rookie and a few listed players who play a very similar style to him and we are going to have some good choices in this year's draft.
Go and enjoy the snow Landrover boy.

They're south aussies so of course they are smart footballers! :thumbsu:
Seriously, I mentioned in another thread that Dodoro was spotted at Alberton on Saturday watching Thomas. I'll be happy with getting one of the above.
