Lets not forget that in the R23 post-match presser Sheeds wondered out loud how Cloke would do in the backline. Probably not much to read into that tweet at this stage.

Any chance you guys will take Lachie Plowman with one of your top picks as defence seems to be alot weaker than your other positions bar ruck?

Yes, its a chance. Will it happen ? Dunno. You'd definitely bet on Whitfield-Toumpas-Grundy though

Ahhh, looks like I'll still cling to the .5% that Toumpas slides to us. I also wouldn't be surprised if you guys took Stringer in the top 3, given that he has the must upside in this draft & you can somewhat take the risk.

Sounds like we might pick up Tippett if he's available and willing (and hopefully cheaper than the stupid price he has on bus head):

@therunhome
GWS CEO David Matthews tells us Kurt Tippett was discussed in club ranks today, and if they can afford him they will take him

And by 'if they can afford him' I read 'once we've sorted out how much these extensions are going to cost, we might throw him some spare change'.

I think its shaping as us taking Whitfield, Toumpas, Grundy (or O'Rourke), Dees taking Wines and you guys taking O'Rourke (if available) and Stringer. Bullies seem to be the most into Stringer. If we look to get a 3rd forward option maybe Membrey at pick 14??

This could shake things up

■ Should the club (Melb) be sanctioned before the draft and lose picks one and two, it would lose Todd Viney's son, Jack.

I would have thought the trade to Melbourne becomes null and void and we get another chance to trade md pick 2. But it's much more hilarious if demons lose viney (and their pick 4 and one of the best chances for them to rebuild.)

Surely there's no way they roll that back. I can understand locking them out of the first four rounds, say, but retroactively removed locked in picks is messed up and can screw over a lot of people. Even worse if they start rolling back trades.

Hi all, just wondering what your thoughts are on T Menzel. If he was available at your pick 12 or 14 could you see the Giants drafting him?

I'll be honest and admit my motives are selfish, I'm looking to see whether he may slip to our pick 16 and given his LARS surgery its understood that only teams with multiple picks early would take a punt on him.

Thanks in advance!

Got bored :). No draft expert but this is what I came up with from examining multiple mock drafts.

FB: Mohr Gilham Bugg
HB: Tyson Davis Toumpas
C: Whitfield Ward Shiel
HF: Adams Cameron Treloar
FF: Patton Tippett Smith
Ruck: Giles Coniglio Greene
Bench: Cornes Scully O'Rourke Vlastuin
Emg: Clurey Brogan Hoskin-Elliot

What do you think?

1. Lachie Whitfield
2. Jimmy Toumpas
3. Brodie Grundy
12. Jaksch
14. Tanner Smith
28. Nathan Hrovat

GWS I believe will pick on list needs not just best available so it's hard to guess. The two are fairly obvious as they are probably the two stand out mids in the draft IMO. It's important to have developing ruckmen on list and Grundy is IMO the best in the draft. After that Shaw and Hrovat would be worth being drafted to help strenghten the forard and backline and Hrovat is said to be a ball magnet who could develop into a handy mid.

Other players such as Wines mid and Shaw fwd would be handy for GWS. Best of luck for the draft.

Aloha Gang, I posted this on the Carlton board, but I figured the info would be usefull to you also,

Emma Quayle was on SEN yesterday morning discussing the draft, she had some pretty interesting thoughts:

  • GWS will select: (1) Whitfield, (2) Toumpas, (3) Menzel
  • Grundy will slide as far as Richmond's selection (Pick #9).
  • Wines a certainty to be picked up by Melbourne at Pick #4.
  • Menzel is her pick to be the best player in the draft, has the ability to break games open and turn them on their head, and that will appeal to GWS, especially given their number of picks, they can afford to take a risk given his injuries.
... she's normally pretty dead on with her sources/record.

If we do take Tippett, the next question is which pick do we need to use ...

It depends what price he puts on his head, whether we'd be his preferred option, what other clubs would be acceptable, and how badly we want him.

If he's fine with joining us and only us, nominating for the PSD is by far the best scenario for us. We have pick 1 and we don't have to use any of our top 30 picks on him.

If he nominates for the ND and doesn't care where he ends up and we really want him, it becomes a game of using our last pick before one of the other interested clubs, depending on who we think would grab him. Specifically that would be pick 8 (Brisbane), pick 13 (Gold Coast) and pick 22 (Sydney), so picks 3, 12 or 14 depending on who we think we have to beat.

I wouldn't use picks 1,2 or 3 on him under any circumstances. If he nominates for the National Draft then I think 12 is ok. If Brisbane take him before that and can pay the salary then good luck to them.

Picks 1,2,3 should be preserved for youth. We don't even know if this bloke wants to play for us and even if he does he will miss a fair bit of season 1 after getting deregistered.

I reckon he can be a gun player but really dislike the way he left Adelaide. Not sure I would give away too much for him.

Exactly my thoughts.
