Olympics - 53 days away

I heard this on the radio today and was incredibly unexcited at the prospect. Bear in mind that I am a sporting nut too (as if that's not obvious).

Is everyone as unenthused about this year's Olympic Games as I am?

Between the over commercialisation, the torch relay controversy, Nick Darcy's suspension (I think justified), Danny Vukovic's suspension (I think incredibly harsh) and no athletes of the profile of Ian Thorpe or Cathy Freeman I just couldn't care less.

I'm sure when it starts I will get into the swimming and a bit of the athletics as always but at this stage I am only looking forward to the soccer tournament and I am sure that will hardly be shown.

Anyone excited?

Haven't watched any of the last 2 Olympics. I actually blackban them from the TV at home, other than the unavoidable coverage during the news.

I spent most of the 2000 Olympics watching the James Bond back catalogue.

This year I will be using the opportunity to catch up on all the DVDs I've bought but haven't had a chance to watch yet.

Can't wait for it to start, it's gonna be awesome to be able to watch sport on TV 24/7. Only comes around every 4 years so looking forward to just sitting back and watching the best in the world go for gold.

Oh and I can just about guarantee that anyone who says they'll watch none of the olympics is talking out their arse

Always look forward to the Soccer, Cycling, Basketball and Swimming coverage.

Sometimes the Equestrian and rowing can be a bit dull, but still, s'all good!

World Cup is better >_> (maybe even European Championships as well: I am currently under a severe lack of sleep from watching Euro 2008 games, I even bought a month of Setanta to watch it )

I'm not a fan of swimming, most boring sport since ... tennis ... or dressage.

Other than that, an olympics in a favourable timezone? yes please. Cant wait

I get bagged for Association Football.. it's funny people say it's boring yet don't mind someone jumping in the pool and doing a few laps, or a leisurely jog around the track.

I will be glad when the Olympics are over.

I don't mind the actual events, it's more all the hype (both positive and negative) around the Olympics that has really put me off this time.

And now today we hear that the Australians will not be marching in the Opening Ceremony due to the smog!

What the?! So it's ok to run 42km in the smog but walking one lap around the stadium could kill them? We've gone soft!

Opening Ceremony is surely one of the highlights too, both for athletes and spectators - images of Nikki Webster floating like an angel still burned in my memory ... those were the days!

Um lots of people around this board hang shit on football so if us footballites want to hang shit on the Olympics which are piss boring and a waste of taxpayers money especially when it comes to the Athletics programs we will.

How much did it cost to get Setanta for a month? I thought all games were gonna be on SBS but I was sorely mistaken. Are any of the Quarter Finals onwards even going to be on SBS? It doesn't look like it ... mad panic!

I was at the Albion recently when someone put that classic hit on the video jukebox and it unexpectedly came absolutely blasting out of the speakers and appeared on a huge tv screen much to the shock of the other patrons ... oh yeah, that was me that put it on
