Omen winner

New York Giants have won the Super Bowel in 1991, 2008 and 2012.

Hawthorn have won the premiership in 1991, 2008 and ?

Closest thing we've got. :p

Super Bowel? Given what happened to Luke Hodge last week, that's another Hawthorn omen!

Last time the AFL Grand Final was on September 29, a Victorian side beat an interstate one.

?
The only time Hawthorn's ever played a Grand Final on September 29, they lost (vs Essendon in 1984)

Actually just realised the same can be said for South Melbourne/Sydney

I
I liked this one, but then remembered the Giants are four time Super Bowl Champions. There other win- 1987. Hawthorn's result that year is a Grand Final loss. So maybe not the Omen you wanted!

I like to think that the omen started in the 90s, ;)

Sydney won 2005, Hawthorn won 3 years later (2008), now they meet again 4 years later (2012). This pattern has only occurred twice in VFL/AFL History:
* Collingwood won 1910, Fitzroy won 3 years later (1913), then they met again 4 years later (1917)
* Essendon won in 1942, Carlton won 3 years later (1945), then they met again 4 years later (1949)

In both instances, the team that had won the first Grand Final (Collingwood, Essendon and Sydney???) won the premiership.

More time for a list turn over and new young, better players coming through.

Interstate sides have a 7-2 record over Victorian sides at GFs at the MCG.
West Coast beat Geelong in 1992
West Coast beat Geelong in 1994
Sydney lost to North Melbourne in 1996
Adelaide beat St Kilda in 1997
Adelaide beat North in 1998
Brisbane beat Essendon, Collingwood x2 in 2001-02-03
Port lost to Geelong in 2007

Love a good omen.

Interesting thread....but some people have too much time on their hands.

Hahaha I think you took it too literally mate.

Just a random pattern that hopefully repeats itself ;)

I'm aware, but I was trying to explain the pattern.

2020 Premiership can only be won by five sides - Collingwood, Essendon, Melbourne, Richmond or Carlton. These are the only clubs to have won a Premiership to start the decade. The club should be only four teams, but the Magpies let in the Blues in 1970, and they nearly let the Saints in 2010...

The last time a player changed clubs and played against his old team, his new team won.

And Luke Ball is related to Peter Russo, who was a teammate of John Kennedy jnr;). And Luke Balls brother was on Hawthorn's list too.
Correct me if I'm wrong but is Luke Ball the cousin of Josh Kennedy I remember something on a doco about it a couple of years ago but I might be getting confused with someone else aha?

Years ending in 0 are the end of a decade. :thumbsu:

1910 Winners Collingwood as they are in 2010

1911 Runner-up Collingwood as they are in 2011

1912 Runner-up Swans ? 2012 ?

If this happens one of St Kilda or Lions are playing in a GF next year.

Another weird thing (which has nothing to do with this match) was that Melbourne (00), Essendon (01), Collingwood (02, 03) and Fitzroy/Brisbane (04) all won those Grand Finals in the 20th Century (1900's) yet lost the exact same ones in the 21st Century (2000's)
