FF Mark Ricciuto - Scott Welsh - Matthew Bode
HF Jason Porplyzia - Nathan Bock - Brett Burton

Does that forward line look dangerous enough? Is there enough goals kicked from those 6 men? Ken McGregor might play down there. Bernie Vince may get a run. Who else would there be?

Thats what im asking, is there enough goals gunna be kicked from those 6 men?

Thoughts?

That forwardline has genuine potencial, no doubt. But like with any other side's forwardline the question must be asked - can that forwardline kick a winning score a consistent basis, week by week?

I think that forwardline can, providing injuries don't take their toll. I have my doubts with Porplyzia on a HFF as I see him more as a midfielder/on-baller type.

Here is how I would set it up.

HF: Burton, McGregor, Bock
F: Welsh, Ricciuto, Bode

I wonder about Ricciuto and Welsh functioning in the same forward line. Would we dare try Jericho up forward again? Maybe only against Essendon because when he kicked four against them I thought he'd turned a corner. ;)

It seems to have gone the way of Geelong, you lack a big guy you can rely on to kick 4 or 5 a week.. McGregors your best shot at the moment..

Welsh is a risky bet... Should be interesting...

Mark Ricciuto should play in the midfield a lot more this season and I suspect that Ken McGregor will be in the pocket going by what he was saying on 5AA the other night. Other than tht it looks ok Sum.

Our forward line will be interesting this year.

Much will depend on the fitness/form/commitment of McGregor, Perrie, and Welsh.

If these 3 are firing on all 8 cylinders I'd go.....

Bode Welsh Kenny
Perrie Bock Thommo/resting mid

This also depends on Stevens holding down CHB which might force Bock back, bring Perrie to CHF and create an opportunity for a smaller fwd like Vince or Roo..........or dare I say it Disco Sellar.

4 tall’s?

Inst that a bit dangerous? Once the ball hits the ground, it will come out just as quick as it came in. especially on a wet day when marking isn’t easy.

I like the 3 and 3 (3 tall’s and 3 smalls) and this would allow Scott Welsh to alternate between a tall and a small

FF: Welsh McGregor Bode
HF: Burton Bock Edwards (resting rover)

yes it's a bit tall - but Welsh plays more like a small leading forward than a tall. He does a lot of tough crumbing and ground / defensive pressure work which is why I think this structure could work most of the time.

edit: - I had forgotten about Burton too - so maybe he comes in for Perrie which adds a little more tall/small balance

When he is on song, hopefully we have more good days than bad ones this season.

Burton on a wing?

I'm hoping our wingers are Mattner and Reilly.....

Me 2 :thumbsu:

With Roo and Thommo alternating in the guts and half forward/forward pocket, Goody, Edwards and Van Berlo would be a good first up midfield.

That forward line is too short. Only one player over 192 cm. What are we trying to be here, midget army?

Minimum 2 talls - Bock & Perrie for me, with 2 mids from Burton, Roo & Welsh. Why have so many people written off Perrie?

Too short old son. 1 tall, 3 mid sized and 2 smalls is far too short. As an absolute minimum replace one of the mids/smalls with a Perrie or Kenny

Where does Nick Gill fit in? Do we only give him a chance if one of the others arent firing or do we give him a go from the start? The boy can mark and split a pack.

In the SANFL he does, but that's a huge step from SANFL to AFL that he needs to take. Perrie and Mcgregor split the packs as well in the SANFL.

He will get an opportunity to show what he can do in the NAB games and after that i guess it is up to him.

Fitness is a way off yet but I see him as an alternative to Perrie and Welsh if they can't get their shyte together.

To be fair though Perrie has been ok when not injured or returning from injury over the last couple of years.

These suggestions are all well and good but you have to remember that Craig likes 3 talls in the forward line that alternate between the pocket, centre half forward and the third one kinda roaming around in the other sections of hte forward line causing problems for the opposition defence. So we can make as many suggestions as we like but it won't eventuate unless you consider the 3 talls structure.

you're always right......

It's going to be interesting to see what you guys do this season. Missing Biglands dropping in and playing a role in the forward line is going to be difficult, but you seem to have enough big bodied players who can at least play a role, even w/o dominating the game.

Roo should almost play a permenant forward role. He is much like Brad Johnson in that, when he plays forward he is very damaging, and even to the point where it off-sets the benefits gained from playing him further up the field, rather than in the goal square.

Burton is crucial to your forward line, as he gives that X-Factor, and can really be difficult to match-up on because of his leap.

You really lack one classy crumber, Bode is good - he applies a lot of defensive pressure, but he will never do THAT well as the main goal scoring crumber. Perhaps Vince can play that role, he's good some good moves and a great goal sense from what I have seen of him both through juniors and his matches last year. He just needs some more meat on that body.

I think the Dogs forward line this year will be one to be envious of

Giansiracusa, Murphy, Akermanis
Johnson, Darcy, Robbins.

:)
