Travis Cloke - Having him running amok is crucial to any flag tilt. When he's up so many around him gain an extra leg.

Scott Pendlebury - A perfect example of knowing where to be and when to be there.

In terms of club there is no-one more important than Eddie McGuire. Without him at the helm we'd still be clocking up 25-30,000 fans at Vic Park, busting our arse to find a decent sponsor and struggling to get a positive headline. He has returned Collingwood to the top of the tree, despite us missing out on the ultimate success. Imagine Collingwood in 2011 with a flag under it's belt.

......and lets not forget us, the supporter. We are the heart, we are Collingwood.

1. Pendles by the length of the flemington, just need to rewatch last years finals series for proof, no point having a Cloke if you can't get the ball to him.
.

Fraser was missing too, you know.

I would hesitate to putting our losses in the finals last year to losing Pendles, rather than the fact that our opposition was a) one of the greatest teams in recent history (Geelong), and b) a team who had just enjoyed one of the best seasons in recent history (St Kilda). Doggies weren't a bad side, either...

Before Jolly came along I would have said that Fraser was our most important player. We played better with him in the team compared to when he was out. Although, Fraser could still be very hard to match up on coming out of the square in 2010.

Now I'd probably go the way of Pendles or Dids. Gee I wish we had a big pack marking power forward so I could say it was him!

I don't normally respond in my own thread, but you just brought a tear to my eye.

All hail Eddie and the Collingwood faithful :thumbsu:

fwiw, over the last 4 years...

Record when Fraser misses: 11 wins / 8 losses
Record when Maxwell misses: 3 wins / 6 losses

Swan hasn't really missed many games, and Cloke/Pendlebury haven't missed many either in the last 3 years (i.e. since they became best-22)

1) Pendles
2) Swan

Without one or the other we lack alot of quality and consistency in midfield and thats where we need to be competitive

3) Anthony

Our most consistent forward and only reliable KPF. Really important to us.

4) Presti

Our most consistent and best KPB. I still think we look vulnerable without him.

5) Medhurst

Just look how our forward line struggled without him. Adds alot to our ability to kick winning scores.

I don't buy the Cloke argument. He doesn't put on alot of scoreboard pressure and I think in the role he is playing now it is easier to cover that lead up CHF role he plays. On potential definitely but thats all it is now.

Dids for his class and Maxy for his leadership stiff to miss out. Shaw for his rebound too.

If you don't count 2009 it is 6 wins / 5 losses hehe

Im surprised only a couple have mentioned Heath, and not even as our most important.
Heath has become what Buckley was, a super star.
2009 was almost a breakout year, he rapes every opponant he's put on.

The op did say who do you think it will be for 2010, most of you answered who it was in 2009, and Pendles isn't even ****ing close!

H. Shaw.

1 - Dids - when he is on fire he is on fire, slot goals from the boundary on the run, eyes closed

2 - Swan - for his ability to be a ball magnite

3 - Shaw - for his ability to get the ball and move it from the back line to the forward line in a flash and 5 or 6 bounces

4 - Pendles - for his cool and calm disposal to the 3 players above

5 - Jolly - Finally a ruckman to fix the only problem we have had for years

After that its up to Maxi, Jack, meders to take care of the rest.

NO Way, is Cloke the be all or end all for us to succeed

i think it is ball
we lacked hard inside mids and now that we got it i think he is very important to our team.

without a shadow of a doubt...

PENDLEBURY

doubt me? then check our win loss ratio when he is NOT in the side

He IS the engine of the midfield...

as a winning Collingwood punter...I would never back us when Pendles is out or returning from injury.

we have performed admirably without Cloke, Fraser and Swan in the past but no Pendles - we're in trouble and I can't put my finger on it because you would think Swan with his possessions or Cloke would be more important..but NO - it's Pendles by a street.

Sorry i just reread in 2010...

and despite what I said above I have got a funny feeling we are about to find out how important Jolly will be to us winning a premiership....I think we have all been screaming every year since Brisbane rucks muscled us out of flags..we need a ruckman who gives us first use of the ball...people are about to find out just how good our midfield is...Ball rotating with Obree at in and under is a bonus..Jolly is the best xmas present ever...just don't get injured Pendles...lol

I think our top 3 are Pendles, Jolly and Cloke.

Pendles skill level is far above any other mid
Jolly will finally give us first use
CHF's win games

Can throw in Didak as he also wins games and Shaw for the run off back

Didak for me... sheer brilliance... showed us in his purple patch this year and during various other big games throughout his career what he brings to the table...

i also rate cloke (to be honest he need to make himself the most important for the sake of our side), swanny, pendles not far behind... these 3 guys perform and collingwood plays well.. if cloke has a good season this year year we will be unstoppable ...

:thumbsu: I agree. People outside of collingwood don't give our mids enough credit. The fact is that they get the ball and the clearances without having a proper tap ruckman giving us first clean use of the footy. The only time that they really struggle is against teams like geelong who have a big ruckman and stronger bodied mids.

Cloke - Can't win a premiership without him playing well.

didaks our best player, possibly our most important too, when he plays well we win, clokes important but he did next to nothing last year and we still finished in the 4, swan and pendles are right up there as well.
