There is so much talk on these forums about our forwards not firing, i thought i would make a thread.

I was wondering if any of you guys that follow the VFL/SANFL/WAFL know any players that are already developed, and are good in front of goals, much like what the Cats have done with Podsiadly.

They could come straight in to the team and have an impact, i don't really follow any of the other lueages mentioned, but for those who do, throw some names around.

Cheers.

Please, he is not in the same league as podsiadly, we are talking about a multiple vfl B&F and a jj liston medalist here...

funny thing is you had podsy...ironic

There's a guy that seems to perform well in the VFL each week & kicks goals. Not sure if he would do well at AFL level but surely he'd be worth a go?
Apparently he moves well for a big guy and has good size. Reportedly needs to work on his contested marking but surely he'd be worth a go?
His name is Chris Dawes, has anyone seen him play?

Well Podsiadly WAS ours lol but ow well. Maybe bring Sav back from America ala Lockett and plonk him at FF.

Then what about Nick Sauntner

Maybe Robbo was on to something when he told us to chase Lloyd. Although....

For Pods to be playing in their forward line just proves that they have an extraordinary midfield and they could put anyone at CHF and have success.

No disrespect to Pods but he hasn't been able to play AFL level since he was part of the worst Collingwood list in decades.

If they would just give Chris Dawes 10 to 12 games in a row and let him get used to the speed, we might not have this problem, i see a big plus in him, his got the build the footy brain the kicking in front of goals skills and courageous.
anyone else see this? or am I just been a little biased?

Bang on mate. His VFL form warrants selection at the moment too. I thought he should have played against the saints.

His marking seems to have improved this year... Haven't seen him take any overhead contested marks, but his uncontested overhead marking seems to have gone up out of sight.

Also took a strong grab on the weekend in the first or second quarter when he was on the lead, had two willy players either side and basically ran straight through them to get the ball. If he can bring more of that into his game i'd be wrapped.

Should definitely be playing this weekend IMO. Whether or not he does is another thing.

maybe biased.. your not a collingwood supporter are you:p

he will make it if

a. he can kick straight
b. be accountable for this opponent and keep the ball inside 50m when he doesn't have the footy.. ala not jack anthony.

haha na im really a carlton supporter just undercover (got shivers typing that) dawesys first season was not to bad but one negative he has in his game is that he doesnt chase that hard, but watching him in the vfl on saturday, you can tell he has worked on that part of his game.

I never understood why Podsiadly was not picked up before this year. He always impressed when playing VFL. He is a big guy with a thumping kick and can take a contested mark, something most forwards of today struggle to do.

If goalkicking hasn't improved over the years, then contested marking has gone backwards. Although the speed of the game and improved negating skills could have a lot to do with that.

So why wasn't Podsiadly playing AFL before this year. Attitude, fitness, lack of defensive pressure??? Does anyone know????

I say age as you won't get a Full Career out of Pods as you would a 18 Year Old Kid

I really want Podsiadly to do well. I think its great to see players that didn't make it fight their way through and make it on their 2nd chance.

I also want to believe you can make it once you pass the age of 25. AFL thesedays seems to value youth so highly. But surely all is not lost if you don't get drafted as a 17 year old.

Was a fantastic debut by Pods. But let's just keepin mind Freo were down their 2 best defenders in Grover and Tarrant. Plus there was no Ottens so a spot became available. He may well be dropped this week to make room for Ottens.

But i wish him luck.

The pies VFL team got carved up by some 'Little' guy from willy on the weekend...little being his surname rather than stature...strong mark, beautiful kick from the parts i saw, 23ish from memory...

Obviously a long shot but worth watching for the season...
