i pose this question because James Sicily could become one of them.

We’ve had Chris Mew and Peter Knights amongst others, but I think Sicily could become our best yet.

The way he carries the ball through traffic and then kicks it is something I don’t remember seeing. I personally wish he played in the forwardline but if he stays back and continues to improve like he is we may be seeing an all time great at our club. What a player, just can’t say enough about him ... So exciting watching him develop.

You have just raised a point that confirms a post I just made on the big fish thread. I asked why, when we have the best intercept marker in the comp, we would be offering more than his salary to attract the second or third best. Sis's disposal is second to none also.

I believe a lot of us old timers will be happy to mention is in conversations with Knights and Mew. Lets not lose him to a massive offer before that happens.

Knights, Mew, Lake and Gibbo ( when asked). All legends. Sic is fantastic but still not sure how effective he can be on the bigger guys like Darling.

I threw up in my mouth with the thought of comparing him to Mew & Knights.
Then you threw that line in to top it off. He's the king of clangers, what have you been watching?
He gives away 2 goals a game(and yes.......he does some great things as well) with his Suckling mimic cross body kicks.

I totally agree but I also have a secret wish to see him forward.

We must offer him a long term deal asap

This is my order:

1. Peter Knights: the most spectacular and beautiful ever. My favourite player.

2. Chris Mew: the coolest and most nonchalant: used to run and bounce the ball out of defence like you and I might eat a cheese sandwich.

3. Lots of choices: we have had so many.

Yes, Mew was nearly as relaxed as one Kelvin Moore, I swear he had control of the space time continuum, he had so much time to stroll from FB.

Peter Knights was an A-grade superstar of the competition. Would have won a brownlow except for a late season injury. The Robert Redford of the AFL.... minus the ginger.

Mew.... did not reach the heights of Knights as an individual.... but they would be equals within the club and among supporters. Mew taking marks with his head down... classic. I remember singing in the terraces "We got Chris Mew, number 2. We got Chris Mew, number 2. We got Chris Mew, number 2.... we got the best team in the world".

They both fit in the GOAT team as Knights can play forward.

Sicily has a long way to go to compare with those two giants (arguably not a fair comparison atm for Sic).

This might be a slightly controversial opinion but the past player Sicily reminds me of the most is James Hird.

The way he glides through the packs to take a pack mark, the kicking skills, the running bounces, etc.

Hird might have the morals of an Alley Cat as a coach but as a player he was pure silk (like Sic) .

Massive compliment to mention Sic in the same conversation as Knights and Mew. He is tracking nicely though, that for sure, so Its not unwarranted.

Dont mind his lapses. He's young. Still finding his feet, his place. Its all part of his development. The growth of sics balls, and the development and confidence hes shown, i just wonder how that would be affected if it was knocked out of him. You cut off the guys balls at this stage, you disrupt his whole development. Happy to wear it, and for him to mature under his own head of steam. This kid dont need reigning in, he needs to be given the free reign. Meh. Im gushing now. Sorry wrong thread.but yeah, bottom lineis he is a worthy of this conversation.

Croady was good, and we loved him, but he wasnt great.

Chris Langford would have played 100+ games at CHB. Always played on Carey, Kernas, etc. would usually take the biggest forward whether they were FF or CHF.
Sicily doesn’t play on the CHF so I would not call him a CHB. He is a floating backman.

Kelvin Moore is probably the most horribly underrated fullback of all time, suffered as he played in an era of great fullbacks, Dench and Southby, remember when backs weren't allowed to grapple. Loved Moore when he would run straight line on his way, did it so many times.
As a hawks supporter he lost nothing on the others in comparison.
Anyway back to CHB discussion.

I love Sic, and in time he could be anything. Comparing him to either Knights or Mew is impossible for a couple of reasons. 1. The game is completely different and that means he doesn't play as a true CHB the way Knight, Mew or even Brown did in 07. 2. He doesn't have the sample size yet. Thos 2 were greats in their position over an extended period of time. Mew was still fantastic, off no pre-season, after Jean's harassed him (in a good way) out of retirement.

Mew was chosen as our CHB ahead of Knights. Not because Knights could be slotted in to somewhere on a HFF. Because Mew was one of the all time great CHBs.

His playing style 20 and 30 years ago is what we see from CHB today. But with far better ball skills.
