Do we think Carlton have a contract offer in front of him?

Do we think that offer would be anything close to what another club could afford?

I don't think Carlton have any room to sign him on a deal close to what another will offer him, and that won't be big either. Carlton isn't in a position to be paying middle or big money for players who can't get a game.

We have a job at Visy lined up :)

I don't think he shown enough yet to be offered a massive pay increase at any rate, if he leaves , it will be most likely for reasons like Lipinski (more guaranteed games and opportunities in the seniors)

How much money do we have out of curiosity? You seem to know plenty about our cap.

There is no premium for a player stuck in the VFL, even if he is performing well in there

It’s pretty much standard for an AFL level player to dominate VFL. The gulf is quite large. Most starting mids in any AFL side should go back and collect the type of numbers Dow has been gathering. Yet he still isn’t even a starting mid in just an average side. He is a depth player. Just.

Should probably leave. Richmond, Geelong, Adelaide and Saints probably good destinations for him.

I reckon Collingwood could be interested.

By adding him and Lipinski, it could be a real shortcut for us to rebuild our midfield (assuming Dow can actually step up at AFL level).

Probably worth a tad more than Lipinski, simply due to draft position. So maybe a pick in the 30’s.

Dow is 6th in line at Carlton, RCD would be 10th. He seems miles off it.

Stack looks like he needs a fresh start, I wouldn’t mind looking at him instead.
The way our midfield is atm he's more like 2nd in line behind Sonsie.lol
I'm not a huge fan of RCD but he is coming off a rib injury.
Will get games this year so its now or never with him with us i feel.

I think he has the potential to be an upgrade on Zac Fisher who I am absolutely fed up with.

Doubt Carlton would get anything more than a 4th rounder for him so would prefer he stays.

Interesting one, at his best he's an explosive contested midfielder who can rag doll his opponents.
At his worst he's a plodder who can't kick straight and gets tired at half time.

He's also never had more than 24 touches in a game.

In saying that I still rate him and don't want to lose him. As soon as one of our top 5 drop out he'll get his run.

Sorry, not going to cop this.

This is a phenomenal post considering we’re talking about someone who wouldn’t command anything above the average AFL player wage.

You must rate him in enormously if you think a club is going to come in with a contract offer that blows ours out of the water.

I still think he'll make it as a player. His kicking is a problem, but I think this will be improved with greater strength and confidence. He's proven to be totally one-dimensional so far - it's midfield or nothing.

I'd really like to see him the 2022 Carlton midfield because he brings a really different element.

Could actually be great bargain shopping for another club.

His kicking will always make him a liability. Has great explosiveness and is fairly clean with his hands, but shanks it too often.

Could get a second go at a struggling club like GC or North, but won’t make it long term imo

I think Dow could be offered $400,000 at another club and it would blow the socks off his contract offer at Carlton, and Carlton will trade him for a pick between #40 and #60.

I think Carlton could more than match that offer you suggest, especially given many 0r our contracts during our dark years for star players who were heavily front loaded.

Basic match payments these days means nothing much to players in Dow's situation, more of a question of getting regular senior games and a chance to contribute to a Premiership contender (which Carlton are)

Your anti Carlton agenda is noted though lol

$400,000 isn’t too far above the average AFL salary.

We’d be able to afford it pretty comfortably…if we wanted to.

Correct, but I believe Carlton has more than the average number of players above average salary. I don't think it's in the Blue's interests to be paying best twenty two money, which $400,000 a season is, to a player outside the best twenty two - hence why I think that offer would pry him away.

$13,400,000 / 22 = $609,000
Minimum contracts are about $100,000 - let's keep the numbers simple and say 40 total squad and every non playing player paid minimum:

$13,400,000 - $1,800,000 = $11,600,000 / 22 = $527,000

That's where I get my rough figure of $400,000 being enough to pry him out because there are guys in the squad earning a player and a half worth of money and the entire rest of the squad aren't signed for minimum $100,000.

How bad is his kicking really? I keep reading he's a butcher of the footy, but that doesn't always stop inside/clearance midfielders making great careers if their other strengths are good enough.

There's been a lot of top level inside mids over the years who haven't had the greatest strength being skills by foot.

I’d take him. Was good against Box Hill last week.
I’m told Carlton rate Stocker, Kemp and Carroll above him. So he may need to move on to get regular game time.

Kemp and Carroll play in different positions to Dow, Carlton have finally found ourselves in an unusual position to having some decent depth on our list.

Complete and utter guesswork. No mention of salaries coming off the books, front-ended deals etc.

Isn't it amazing that one second player X is a dud yet the next second another club is going to offer some ludicrous money to attract them to their club?

Never change, BigFooty.

Not everything is a conspiracy theory.

Have another read, the numbers I've used are the salary cap and a very soft number of players on the squad.

It's still guesswork from your end, and having read many of your previous posts about Carlton, you have a distinct anti Blues agenda...

We look after our lads at Carlton, we rarely lose required players to other clubs
