Recommitted Paddy Dow [OOC 2023] explored his options, but stayed

He’d be lucky to get another gig. His high draft stocks are irrelevant now. I do think there will be a club though that will give him another chance to see if a change in environment can help bring out his best. No club would trade for him, only as a DFA. I can see us being that team.
Wouldn't be surprised if we gave him a shot to join his brother. Apparently we tried last year.

Yeah I think it’s between us.
Maybe but Goldstein seems like a classic cats recruit (not having a dig). Wouldn't be surprised if they take Shiel off Essendons hands either. Cats tend to go for tried and true experienced talent rather than under performing young talent. I can't think of one in the last decade?

Good call on shiel to the cats .... might be inspired by playing with Jezza

What a strange post - who compared him to either?
How is it strange to compare pick 3 from the 2017 draft to pick 2 and 5 on their progression? Brayshaw and Cerra have been on the up their whole career Dow had a decent first year and reasonable 2nd but stagnated a lot since then no where near tracking well

He's got hawks written all over him and they will pay overs too

He’ll cost the same as what Scrimshaw cost Hawthorn in a trade. Dow doesn’t have high market value. He’s been available for selection all year and Carlton have chosen not to play him.

I think he'll end up at either North (his family club), Richmond (where his brother plays), Geelong or Hawthorn.

I wouldn't expect we'd get much in return - maybe a third round pick if we are lucky or/ a swap for a player of need who is equally struggling to break into their teams 22 (ruckman, KPD, wing).

I think Paddy would be a good fit in your midfield. He would add a point of difference with his break away speed.

We need mids with foot skills. Dow is a very speculative player at AFL level without the foot skills to make up for it.

It's been argued back and forth on our board, but those of us looking at his deficiencies are pretty adamant he is everything we don't need to be chasing.

AFL website reporting he extended some time ago and is contracted until the end of next season.

MIDFIELDER TO BE IN RIVALS' SIGHTS

CARLTON'S Paddy Dow's hot form at VFL level is expected to make him a trade target this year, despite the midfielder being signed to the Blues until the end of 2023.

The 2017 No.3 draft pick has played only one game this year – in round five when he was the unused medical substitute.

But he has been in strong form in the club's VFL side, averaging 28 disposals and a goal a game in the first six rounds of the season, including his 33-disposal and two-goal effort against North Melbourne last week.

The 22-year-old, who is into his fifth season at the club, is not eyeing a move from Carlton and is settled at the Blues but rival clubs are tracking him closely as a readymade midfield option.

He was contracted to the end of this year but added an extra season to his deal some time ago tying him to the Blues until the end of 2023.

Dow, whose brother Thomson is making his way at Richmond after joining the Tigers as a first-round pick in 2019, has played 60 games for the Blues since making his debut in 2018, when he played 20 games. – Callum Twomey

He's contracted. 2 first rounders or nothing!

Good news that he is contracted. I still think we let him go if he wants to leave for more oppprtunitty but means we dont have to accept chips for him.

BTW im pretty sure he is wrong about dow being contracted, He signed a contract in 2018 to anchor him to carlton till the end of 2022

"He was contracted to the end of this year but added an extra season to his deal some time ago tying him to the Blues until the end of 2023."

Sounds like he's very much aware of the main contract you're talking about, and that this is an additional year on top of that.

Just read that, apologies

Doesn't mean you shouldn't pay a late 2nd rounder for him though :D

Dow should get a look in soon as injuries are starting to mount up for us :(
