Recommitted Paddy Dow [OOC 2023] explored his options, but stayed

Surely Dow moves clubs given the number of players ahead of him.

Reckon hawks might have a look as we need more mids and would come very cheap. Not sure if his issues are fixable but we likely have a different midfield set up and a change of scenery may help.

I do think we should have a look at him, We have his brother and he would be a serviceable replacement to the mids we lose at years end
Well, well, a bidding war

Dow probably should move clubs, but I don’t think the lack of opportunity isn’t because Carlton have a stacked midfield - he just isn’t very good.

Even at VFL level there’s no real nuance to his play. He can find the ball and can hit a teammate with a quick handball but he can’t craft a play and basically just takes the first option available to him.

Plus his kicking is still pretty poor.

Wouldn’t surprise if he went elsewhere and worked his way into being best 22, or even broke into the Carlton side, I just can’t see him even becoming the player he was imagined when he was drafted.

No doubt he isn't the player he was promised to be, Could be decent though, especially at a club with a lacking midfield

We need midfield CLASS. Dow would be a horrible fit for us in the Sam Mitchell era.

James Worpel is twice the player Dow is but he's already seen the axe this season as Connor Nash, Jai Newcombe and Josh Ward offer more dynamics.

Hopefully we're strong into Tanner Bruhn or Karl Amon and can move on O'Meara come seasons end.

Have Connor Macdonald, Sam Butler and Finn Maginness to pump midfield time into as the years progress as well.

Honestly don't think he'd be worth much. There's a reason he's not even able to crack the best 22 at Carlton. He struggled even last year when Carlton were battling. His horrid disposal limits his value and the rest of his game isn't that amazing to make up for it.

We have looked at him before, and if he puts in some good VFL form we probably will again.

Pick 3 with 5 seasons under his belt and the club has since gone out and recruited similar types that are all better than him. If he was taken at pick 60 he would already be delisted. Plenty of first rounders are busts, and SOS seems to have had more than anybody else in the industry. Just have to identify it early and cut your losses while they still have some value.

Perfect fit for bombers with your star gets from other years in Smith and Sheils

32 and 7 inside 50’s yesterday. Good game.

Any Blues that watched, what was his ball use like?
His ball use has improved a lot and he showed that at AFL level last year.

He is just pretty one dimensional, doesn't offer much defensively and cannot play any other positions other than inside mid.

We have Cripps, Kennedy, Cerra, Hewett, Walsh ahead of him

Considering he will be worth nothing in terms of salary or trade value, I can't see how any club wouldn't be interested.

He's shown more than Ben Keays did to the same point of their careers. Lipinski, Brodie both have huge limitations in their games. They just needed the right system.

Now, that doesn't mean Dow will make it. Not every player who changes clubs improves.
But it does mean, considering he does have good aspects to his game, he's probably worth a random low pick and slight salary increase offer and saying we will give you a good crack for 2 years, it's on you now.

He's clearly out of favour at Carlton when Cripps, Kennedy, Hewett and Walsh have all missed games and he still hasn't made it into the best 22, and also they'd prefer to play ample flankers/pockets (Fisher, Martin, Owies, Durdin, Newnes and Cottrell all in the 23 last night) plus Carroll ahead of him.

So I'd be offering getting in his ear, convincing him he's better off with a fresh start and offering up pick 50 odd. Worse case, he doesn't work out, pick 50 odd is 10% chance anyway. Best case, you get a decent inside mid in the Lipinski/Brodie tier. Carlton wouldn't fight it I think.
