Amazing company like SAAB getting involved in indigenous STEM is pretty huge and i'd wager quite rare.

Hopefully this leads to a long partnership as SAAB is getting to be a pretty big employee in SA and growing.

This partnership/project has had a 3.5 year gestation period, or longer.

The technology development group I used to be involved with were looking at getting involved with a health/biotech product. One of the guys doing consulting for the health/biotech company was also doing consulting work for SAAB Group and had been working closely with their MD Andy Keough and lobby the federal government about a defence contract. He had worked in Canberra for over a decade.

He found out I was a Port fan, like him, and we had a few meetings over coffee to talk Port stuff and a bit of business stuff. He was really keen to introduce Port to SAAB and also wanted to see if my group and Port could get involved in an Aboriginal health unit in the Riverland and help expand it.

SAAB like all defence contractors are worried about having enough kids doing STEM subjects to increase the pool and depth of talent they can draw from in the future. They had apparently invented some great Virtual Reality product for military use, but were looking at modifying it, so kids could work with it, and use it as a way to hook them into STEM studies.

My colleague had talked about taking the revised product and putting it onto a bus so it could become a mobile trade show for kids in the city and outback, and linking it in with Port's Community Programs as well as using the ADF programs links. I know he had several conversations with KT and introduced him to SAAB's MD Andy Keough. But last time I talked about it with him was late 2019. The monies didn't come thru and the health/biotech product didn't progress.

Not everything is done on a meeting and a handshake deal a few weeks later.

Old school. Like your car preferences.

I just did a little google and found that there is one called NO DONG.
That one is now my favourite.

What's your favourite brand of ballistic missile?

My old home town made a tourist attraction of ballistic missiles:

Jet planes too - as well as that Meteor, there's also a Canberra bomber:

And even Australia's own Jindivik (used for target practice):

My favourite ballistic missile though? The Bloodhound of course:
