Parsons elbow on Hodge

Tell me which has more force

A head on collision with both cars doing 80 or a car doing 80 hitting a parked car

Neither are great, but the flying elbow on the run is worse

Actually the force is identical lol (or at least the outcome is the same)

I don't understand why people Hate hodge. He took an elbow to the head shook it off an kept playing. Would probably by Parsons a beer after the game while all you pussies argue over who's a sniper

There's a perception that the AFL is biased towards Hawthorn, and when a player lies prone on the ground for a few moments after a "sling" tackle, it is remarkable that he isn't concussion tested.

That's a different argument completely. Hodge is tough as hell and the cats players are lucky in both cases that he's a tough prick. Thought parsons should have got 1 and menegola was unlucky. However if those 2 hits had been on say Pat McCartin who has concussion history they both miss a month. Stupid really

I'm guessing Hodge as a senior player pushed away the option of a concussion test because he's old school

Yeah that is not really acceptable in this day and age.

I don't care how "old school" or "tough" a player might be. Hawks should be up for a fine for this.

Probably the same as Travis Boak last year
Still 90% of the modern players would have died after either of those acts yet people still tarnish Hodges legacy. He gives it out and he gets it in return without complaining. Fair enough

You're a very strange man.

Cause I don't come on here and call everyone who hurts someone a sniper?

Nothing to do with that.

The AFL has outlined a very clear concussion protocol in order to protect players, yet you are still commending a bloke for shrugging off a concussion test, due to the fact he is "old school" and "tough"?

The league set a very clear precedent with fines for Port after the Boak incident last year, and I'm stunned that a similar thing hasn't happened to the Hawks for how they handled Hodge on the weekend.

And what of marking contests where a players knee can connect with the back of opponents head?

High risk, but we don't want that being taken out of the game, surely.

We've heard the AFL state that the head is sacrosanct, but the rules are inconsistent when it comes to which damaging actions are allowed. You are permitted to smash your knees into an opponent's head in the process of taking a mark. The current interpretation of the bump is that head contact is permitted if you are not off the ground and the initial contact was with the body. A tackling technique that results in your opponent's head hitting the ground is not only illegal but reportable.

No one wants to see the end of the speccy or the bump. And sling tackles and elbows to the chin are not acceptable. But what I do have a problem with is the inconsistency as applied by the MRP. Hodge continued playing almost immediately after both the Menegola tackle and Parson's hit. Which would normally put the Degree of Impact to be Low. But both incidents were upgraded to Medium impact because of the 'risk of serious injury with elbows to the head and dangerous tackles'. Yet other actions that carry the risk of serious injury to the head are within the rules. It makes no sense.

The AFL should dispense with upgrading impact for certain actions and just go with the result on the player. It would make more sense and would also give greater consistency at the tribunal. For example, Scott Thompson's elbow to the face on Dangerfield was assessed as 'low' impact but it had just as much potential to cause injury as the Parson's elbow to Hodge.

Your having your own conversation mate. Had nothing to do with what I said. I was commending him for not making a song and dance about it. Not saying he couldn't have snuck off later for a test

Not sure why he'd have to sneak off for a test. Should have been escorted by medical staff as soon as he got up.

And this is the exact problem with the AFL tough guy club.

It should be taken out of the player's hands and sit with medical staff.

Or maybe he wasn't concussed? This is the problem with Gen overreaction

Not sure if mentioned by parsons did the same elbow trick to Burgoyne late in a mark. 'Right in front of me' so he's a bit lucky with the mrp. Gettin a name for it I'd say

Every heavy headknock should be assessed.

How would he know he wasn't concussed?

League should be on eggshells around this or face a class action from retired players. Greg Williams case in point.

So every time someone gets hit in the head they should come off? Silly

Who's to say they were forceful? Only hodge knows
