I will be the bad guy here and say i'm not getting too excited just yet. His form pre injury was hardly sparking so i am not going to be thinking about him at senior level until i see how the form comes up in the VFL.
He has had to change how he runs so it will be interesting to see how that equates to his kicking and general form.

Ant i thought Pears pre injury forum was great. If u take it back to last time he was injury free (pre broken arm) i think he was great. Also has been a very good talent up until then.
Gotta say it will take 4 weeks of VFL due to how long he has been out but i for one am excited to have one of the better young defenders in the comp back injury free (lets hope). But as you say lets wait and see on VFL form. Good to have you back posting Ant ;) but dont go taking my excitement away interesting on change in running style hope its not like Myers or hookers :p

Can someone give me more info on this whole "Having to change how he runs" thing?

Pretty sure Josh Drummond had to do the same thing as Pears, as his awkward running style was leading to a lot of soft tissue injuries (unfortunately this hasn't helped him much so far, still extremely injury prone).

I believe it has something to do with reducing force on the areas where you are most at risk. For example, when running, if your leg is straight when your heel hits the floor (knee should be bent), you are more at risk of getting back injuries as the force is set up your leg and into your spine.

So basically, I would imagine he has to do it to reduce the impact on his foot. He would have probably just been taught a more effective technique that maximizes energy while reducing force.

2012 is the goal peoples, 2012 is the goal.

Hurley with 50 games, Zaka, Watson grows further, Crameri as a hard nut forward, another year into Heppell..... and Pears at full fitness.

May the fapping begin.

Have you ever had a lid or has it just been permanently lost?

I had a lid, but it was lost when I started finding every friggin post by every loser that effectively stated Essendon had no talent on it's list.

Does it really matter? Not really.... but I like utilising a good memory to smack the ill informed.

The question for you is, is it a problem for you that I'm backing the Bombers for greatness?

No. There is, however, a difference between backing Essendon and repeatedly making outlandish, hyperbolic statements of supremacy.

2012 is the goal is an outlandish statement?

True. Better than hyperbolic pessimism, too.

In all fainess mate, you could have checked my history and found an outlandish statement or five..... :D

If he dominates in the 2nds, will he play against Melbourne next week?

The VFL game has already been played and won (132-90) and Pears made a very positive return playing the first half and contributing well. Some have said it would be difficult to tell that he has missed nearly twelve months of football.

He would still be at least 3-4 weeks away playing senior football. And even that is probably being optimistic.

Only played half the game so no he would not be in line to play against Melbourne.

Pears hasn't lost any touch - i was there and his skills were awesome as was his marking. If he has no setbacks i can certainly see him playing AFL earlier than you think. He'll have a week off playing this week which may not be a bad thing as like horses, some players struggle 2nd-up from a spell. He will still get the benefit of a good workout on the training track and play the following week after the VFL bye. If he can get through 4 quarters and play to the level he showed yesterday then he'd be a chance for a promotion in R13.

Think you may be a round early. Given the time missed i think he would need 2 full games.

Why are people saying Bendigo have a bye? According to the VFL app they're playing Coburg Tigers, and that Willi have the bye. What's actually happening?

Willy, Coburg and Bendigo have the bye. Pretty sure there was some swapping of games after the fixture was announced.

according to most sources, Bendigo, Willi and Coburg all have a bye this week. The club websites for those clubs have a bye listed. But the fixture in the weekly record has only willi with the bye. looks like the VFL has got an error in theirs.

No bendigo match this week afaik.

Tah. This means we'll have 2 byes in 6 weeks. Is that unusual?
