Flower...lock thread.
PS - whats with all the Melb and Coll comparisons. Are Collingwood fans becoming insecure about Melbourne's re-emergence in 2008. Must have been too many Queensbirthday floggings
How many times did Daicos play for his state?
5 (for 12 goals) according to Wikipedia.
Flower retired when I was 4. I'm just trying to get a handle on just how good the greats are.

Flower was a champion player in a crap team. If he had of played for the hawks during that era then he would now be considered one of the best players of all time and people would eb comparing him to Ablett and Matthews.

Flower had class ,but didn't have the x factor like Daicos
After injuring his legs Daicos did reinvent himself as a very damaging HHF.
Daicos was electrifying ,Flower was very workman like but still an excellent player.The best way to describe flower is that he would glide around the ground.
Daicos on the other hand would excite supporters to the degree that when he got hold of the ball,you knew he would do something special with it,and the fans would go wild when Daicos was near the ball.Thomas from collingwood reminds me aliittle of the x factor Daicos had that Thomas has shown in small glimpses,especially aroung the goals.
Flower= class
Daicos=x factor magic
Both champions.
Daicos, as I see it, was a once-in-a-lifetime player. 95 goals in a single season from a forward pocket; reinvented how to shoot for goals (for how many years were his dribbled goals described as lucky 'bounces', incredible body strength - there has been no one like him in my time (about half a century) as a football supporter.
There are a couple of Robbie Flowers playing in the AFL at any one time. eg Judd, McLeod and Cousins right now.
So scarcity wins the day. Dakes is the winner![]()
Have a look at the Big V stats for the Flower - big game player but never had the opportunities at Melbourne!!!!!!

No one has X-Factor compared to Daicos.Flower no X factor?
Very different players and I saw a lot of both. For pure class, Flower. If you want a match winner who is going to pull a goal from the 10th row of the stand, Daicos.
Daicos had far more entertainment value.
I hate people suggesting other players for comparisons so slap me, but a Flower v K Grieg would be more realistic perhaps.
No one has X-Factor compared to Daicos.
The man defined the term.
[/B] Good comparison, both great wingman.Daicos was in a league of his own,an absolute magician the only player currently playing would be S.Johnson to would come close to the X-factor of Daicos.
