That Baggy Green does some funny things to cricketers...

Some look like a million dollars playing at First Class level, yet look all at sea once they put on the Baggy Green and others are somewhat lucky to get a gig and grow an extra leg and perform what would be considered above themselves.

Siddle definitely is the latter. You can question his ability, but you can't question his heart. Rise to the occasion SID!

As a consequence of this thread I am now looking at poo in a whole new light.
It seems I may have ben seriously underrating it.

Well, the manner in which he was chosen was poor, but he must've bowled well (I missed his hat trick and last wicket, was at cricket training). One spell doesnt make a summer however, and he has to actually back this up.

Puts the heat on both Johnson and Hilfenhaus if Bollinger bowls well for the bluebaggers this weekend

To people suggesting that the haters were "wrong", they (we) weren't wrong at all. Based on any sort of form which he'd shown previously at Test, ODI or Shield level, he should not have been an instant recall. He was bowling short tripe, and showed no signs of changing his style.

However, he has always demonstrated talent, and today was a ****ing brilliant day to realise that he's 100x the bowler he usually is when he pitches it up, gives himself a chance to move it, and bowls it QUICK. Most of us thought he'd need to go back to FC cricket to realise that.

He was still a bit inconsistent, and his first spell was rubbish, but credit to him, he came good. It doesn't make anything said about him previously any less valid though.

People tend to overrate Bollinger hugely, but he should come into the team for Johnson pronto as far as I'm concerned. Utter trash today as usual.

Just as Marcus North needs some time at domestic level, so to does Peter Siddle.

Just incapable of taking a wicket with the new ball, he cant and wont do it this spell. What's he there for if he cant take a wicket with the new rock?

Cant maintain a consistent length, as mentioned by various commentators it's a real problem.

And you can shove that right arm of poo right up your arse!

And all you whingers trying to backtrack and re-clarify your words, ie bloodstainedangel5 and his hat-eating friends, just except that Siddle has singlehandedly put us in the box seat in an Ashes test that no one truly believed we could win.

This ain't some tiggy touchwood cricket match, this is the Ashes, and your boy Siddle just took a 6fa including a hatty!

Suck sh1t!

Bollinger is definitely OVERRATED.

He's your typical workhorse and should come in to the side instead of Johnson who just seems to be really lacking any penetration in his bowling.

The thing that is a bit bizzare is that the same people who criticized Siddle leading into this match, are totally in love with Ben Hilfenhaus.
Their stats are pretty much the same.

The key to selection is potential and how a player will perform; not how a player has performed. Selectors could not have made a better decision.
I cannot comprehend how you can still bag their decision in hindsight with the performance Siddle just put on.

The funnier thing is Siddle gets criticised for giving away too many runs and relieving the pressure yet has a better economy rate than the great Doug Bollinger :D

Have to laugh at the NSW fans who think Siddle was plucked from thin air having not played a game all summer, they seem to ignore he has bowled 140 overs this summer all up in all forms of the game and he went back to first class cricket and was about 2nd on the wicket takers table after the 3 games he played

Doug the Rug went back to NSW, picked up a couple of wickets on a minefield, went out the next day and got smashed around on the same minefield as his team lost by 1 wicket because he leaked 15 runs off 5 balls at the end when all he needed was 1 good ball to win it for his team

A wicketless innings on that pitch doesnt make anyone outside of NSW and Siddle haters think you are fit enough or in form to be allowed into the test side for the 1st test of 5 in 6 weeks

What crap.

So you didn't rate his performance against SAF as a 24yo?

He was bowling well enough for someone who'd played in 6 series at an average of 31.

At 24,25 he was a raw kid in cricket terms but still showed enough in between some ordinary spells, just needed some coaching and adjustment to technique.

Been our best young prospect in ages.

Its almost like people forget he won the ICC emerging cricketer of the year not so long ago.
Like I said only to cop it from one of the BF experts who doesn't know half as much as they think they do, a lot of people have very short memories.
I love being proven correct, its even better when people refuse to concede they got it wrong

unfortunately, Sids is a Victorian, so unless he can take 10 wickets in an innings and get 500 runs with the bat, he will never be rated in Australian cricket.

He is the only viable paceman in australian cricket who can bowl consistent spells, get given a task and do it, much in the mould of Glenn McGrath (and more recently Stuart Clark).

Hopefully his first innings performance in brissie gives selectors a kick up the arse and keep him in the side.

He has more right to a place in the side than Mitch Johnson who would struggle to hit buckingham palace from the front door, or to a lesser extent Hilfenhaus, who can be great, but can also be all over the shop
