Pick 14

There seems to be limited footage this year. Guess it comes with the territory of having a pick outside the top 5. At the moment I like Clark, Sturt and Stocker.

Quite a few TAC games on youtube. Number 7, apparently he wasnt 100% with a shoulder prob. He looks like a Andrew Brayshaw replica.

As for WA boys, so many were injured and not many played in the League side? Least, Clark held his own in the elimination finals - but still feels too high for pick 14.

Thanks you. Appreciate you finding that.
If I had to decide on him based on that small sample size, I wouldn't give up my first. Couple of good clearances in the second.

With Hill: anyone else notice that when he kicked over distance his kicks got VERY loopy...

They had no penetration at all
This is true but I would think in a HF or HHF role the kicks to forwards advantage are way more important than long bombs. He excels at those kicks.

Someone asked Cal on yesterday’s Road to the Draft podcast if Clarke would be available at our first pick and thinks he’ll possibly go top 10 (I think GWS although they’ve lost both Lobb and Wilson as go homers so they may pass). He also thinks Hill has had a major slide and may not go until the 20’s. Although I think he’s a reach at 14 I’d hate to see him run around for West Coast.

Pick 14 will turn into pick 16.

I don’t think it’s a reach to get Hill but it’s only a few spots of a reach to fill a need who is Western Australian.

Based on his 2017 form he would go top 10. Had a shoulder injury and numbers dripped.

Teams have feeling he is a flight risk and will slide.

I noticed in the phantom draft on the roar has us taking Caldwell. I’d be very happy with him. I like him or stocker.

I think I’d prefer a genuine crumbing forward to getting Ian hill to play there
Twomey reckons Caldwell won't make it to us. Has him at 9.

I think we may have the choice of Stocker and Hill and will select neither.

I think we will replace Neale with another SA kid in Valente. He is an instant plug and play pick and dual sided, evasive.
Which will give us the choice of using Cerra, Banfield, forward with Mundy, Fyfe.
As for pace we have plenty of smaller types and added Colyer into that range of Gerro, Crowden, Swita.
So unless the plan has always been Hill, its Valente for me, but you can make a case for Taylor aswell.

I can see us doing a live pick swap with Adelaide pick 14 and pick 31 (they get Valente) for their pick 16 and 21.

Gives us 16,21,43,65 another pick before the Eagles 2nd pick and gives Adelaide 2 picks 13,14 before Port (15)

Not if Freo has the best available player at pick 14. It would defeat the purpose of tye draft

A best available player at your pick is worth more than what might be available later on.

Yeah agree with this. I’ve cooled on Stocker.

Didn't see anything of this in this particular game.
Maybe he had an offy

Liam Stocker Vic Metro/Sandringham Dragons/Haileybury College
23/01/2000 Height: 183cm Weight: 83kg

Medium midfielder who capped off a great year at TAC Cup level winning the Morrish Medal after averaging 22.2 disposals, 5.6 clearances and 4.5 tackles across the season. Missed the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships due to injury but his burst from stoppages, his ability in one-on-one contests and competitive nature make him a real prospect. Has the ability to impact games with his goal sense.

Pretty good leader too from all reports too (Valente)

I really like Valente as a player but IMO Stocker has him covered because he comes not only with the leadership side but also with some of the athletic traits (explosive, power) that you can't really train (whereas Valente is just average pace). Valente is a good kick and dual sided but not an elite kick, whilst Stocker is a reasonable kick with other advantages. We have been making a conscious effort to rank based upon an emphasis on character (and we believe it has been paying off) so I suspect that will raise the chances of guys like this.

As I said in another thread, Sturt is another I would consider around 14. Not the same exposed character pedigree, but topped full of raw talent - he is tallish (188cm), fast (top 10), agile (Top 10), leaps well (Top 5) and a goal kicker with a racking left foot. He has also not done a preseason due to having focussed on cricket. Because of a lack of exposure to rigorous afl training etc. He is very wiry and one wonders if he built up his strength what advantages and disadvantages would come with that. He is high risk, but also potentially very high reward.

I like Chayce Jones too at this pick, and we tend to rate the Taswegians but I would go Stocker or Sturt just slightly before (or Clark or Thomas if available).

What's your take on Ian Hill?
Would love for Freo to be third time lucky and officially kill our first pick curse.

I am of the opinion that we’ll take a midfielder at 14 because all good things must come to an end (Mundy) and even though we drafted Blakely to take over Mundy, it won’t hurt to have another big bodied mid that can play dual positions like Mundy and Blakely have been able to. I just don’t see the need to grab a small forward or half back in the first round, we’ve got a variety of guys that can play small forward. Matera, Walters, Switkowski, Giro, Nyhuis (The last two are part timers).

Welcome to Nyhuis whoever we select.

Any thoughts on EF Ton Joyce, standout carnival as an under ager in 2017, didn't play this year due to a hip injury....like English is a natural possession winner....might not be pick 14 tho, but a later pick perhaps.....

Pre-injury he was looking like a player that would go between 10-20, WA's best prospect, and one of the best smaller mids along with Walsh, Caldwell, Joyce; gut feel is he is now falls a little to a second round pick. If he is still there at pick 33ish (whatever our second pick is) and assuming the injury is not going to have long term impacts I would saying start the car. I do think however that a number of the bigger clubs will have done their homework though and that he may disappear between then.

I reckon Joyce will slip to our pick in the 40's, depending on what we've drafted by then I wouldn't mind him.

If we end up drafting Caldwell/Stocker/Another Mid with our first pick and then English/Foley/Smith/Bytel with our second then move on to someone else i reckon
