Whilst giving up next years first is hard, obviously they think a pick around 10 in next years draft can slide out to 15ish because of how heavily compensated it is with academy players. Not sure what to think, but don't think its as one sided as the initial reactions may be

What the **** is the point of swapping picks 71 and 72 one is worth 29 draft pts the other 19 pts??

Next year supposedly 17 of the top 35-40 picks will be father sons or academy picks is what I have read, so this might be preparing for that.

It begs the question, what will Taj Schofield be worth and what do we have to sell to get him next trade period??? Expect another Wingard/Polec/Howard trading angst situation if Taj lives up to his reputation.

Ok here is what this swap looks like in terms of draft pts.

Brisbane is effectively giving up pick 22 to get our first Rd pick next year

If we get pick 10 next year as per our usual situation we are effectively giving Brisbane pick 35 value over and above what they gave us.



If we get pick 5 next year we are effectively giving Brisbane pick 18 value over and above what they gave us.



If we get pick 15 next year we are effectively giving Brisbane pick 52 value over and above what they gave us.

Unless we absolutely shaft some other team is a deal involving 16 and 12 for a higher pick, this deal is bad.

Best case scenario (we finish top 4): we're giving up 2020 pick 16(ish) + 2019 pick 29 for 2019 pick 16. So in that best case scenario we've given away pick 29 for nothing.

The lower we finish next year, the worse this trade gets. Horrendous in isolation.

I'm not pro or against yet as I have to think about it a bit more, but I suspect part of the motivation was that 29 could well have been out the door for Mead meaning it has value for Brisbane .... but not for us.

What this does do is give us 3 high picks last year, plus three this year and Mead = 7 highly rated kids in 2 seasons. (although it sounds like we may try and trade even further which suggests it may only be 2 high picks plus Mead this year)

I'm always nervous about trading out potentially high future picks.

At first glance this is bad. At second this is very bad. This is yet more doubling down on saving the 3K's during the 150th at the expense of the club's long term future. I hate everything about this except shifting out 29.

Absolutely nothing being missed. We traded big into a smalls draft.

We gave up a LOT last year to trade up for Rozee and we all thought it was mad.
