Why does logic always have to win?
Logic always wins my friend, if only the logical answer always turned out the way you'd explained it though. :D
Other suggestions?
Could change Rocky to Neale or Jelwood...still prefer Rocky
Rocky currently has a red line through his name for mine, no preseason games = no selection in my side. I know the man is a freak but given his injury worries and that he's also settling into a new club with out any match means I won't touch him. However if/when Rocky strings together a couple of tones I'll be all over him like a fat kid with cake. Just imagine if Titch and Rocky can both be at their bests together!

As for Jelwood, I know he's at a good price but what's he going to be able to do this season to improve how he went last season? If I'm starting a premo I want to feel they'll be able to be in the top 6/8 players in their position and Selwood won't come close to that. If you did bring him in to generate some cash it'll be such a slow process.

Neale is one who I does excite me, Fyfe is back firing, Fremantle looking to do better, is a really good age at 25, proven to have scored over 110 before and looking on fire over the JLT. I think he can be a top 8 midfielder with out the big, big price tag.

I don't have Jelwood but I personally think he can knock his average back up to around that 110 mark. Had 3 injury affected scores last year as well as some very poor scores due to being shut down by a tagger. He looked very good in the last JLT game (I do realise it is JLT but he just looked a cut above on himself from last year). Like I said, I'm not starting with him but I also think he can get back to what we know he can produce. Much better pick than Rocky IMO that's for sure

You would think Jelwood will have another 3 injury interrupted games. He is too much of a risk, love the way he plays, just couldnt ride that rollercoater of every game comes with the potential KO/injury

FREMANTLE will have two debutants in its clash with Port Adelaide this weekend, with top pick Andrew Brayshaw and mature-ager Bailey Banfield to play their first AFL games.

The injury affected scores come hand in hand with Jelwood though matey, it wasn't as though they were one off's. The same thing happens every year and It most likely will again this year. Because he goes so hard at the ball and spends two thirds of most games in the bottom of packs he opens himself up to getting injuries. There's always going to be a chance of him getting knocked out early in the game again and leaving you with another score of two.

I can see the pros for him but personally I feel the cons outweigh his potential.

We can just wait until he gets KOed on the score of 2 and pick him up dirt cheap 3 weeks later. :D

I feel like that's a bit of a fallacy, that he gets injured every year. People see him split his head open constantly, but rarely does he actually miss a game. He's one of the youngest to ever reach 250 games and has only missed 19 matches in his entire career (including his debut season). If you take out 2017, 2011 and 2007, he's only missed 5 matches in the other 8 years. Those are pretty impressive numbers from someone as hard at it as he is. From 2013 to 2016 he missed 2 matches (in 2015), and that was due to him having very little help around him and getting tagged every week and pushing his body too hard. Since 2008 he's never dipped below 90 and has averaged over a hundred 6 times. Another interesting fact, is that he's only ever been properly concussed twice, and both times he's played the next week. Also, he's scored 185, 175 and 166 throughout his career, so sky is the limit when it comes to his ceiling. Definitely a lot of Chinese whispers going on when it comes to Sel.

Here's some achievements to support the above as well:

  • Youngest player in Geelong history to play 200 senior games (27 years of age): 2015
  • Fourth-fastest player in VFL/AFL history to reach 200 senior games (8 years and 129 days after debut): 2015

Oh Absolutely but I feel 3 is a little excessive compared with most years and now that Gaz is there it may even take a little of that in and under pressure off him. Who's to know but still upside with this bloke. But again, I won't be touching him. Might be great for draft

First and foremost I don't want to look like I'm bagging him out as a player I absolutely love watching him, whilst I didn't have him last season I'd had him the two seasons prior, he's been one of my most common sections over the years.

He's had a great career mate, pumped out some unbelievable scores and has had a couple of huge year and I won't take a single thing away from him, what I do question is his ability to get significantly better. He is turning 30 and I just don't see how he's going to be able to improve his average by 15 points in one season. You say the sky is the limit with him and in one off games it absolutely is but I think it's almost impossible for him to be a top eight midfielder this season and that's why I question his ceiling. Last year to be a top eight midfielder you needed to score over 113, the best season Jelwood has ever had in his entire career was 109.

Yes he can pump out some massive scores but I can't ignore the face that last season we seen him have six scores below 70 and a 62 & 63 in the quarter and semi finals, which don't go towards his season average either. Yes, what you're saying on the amount of games he plays is correct but because he is such a tough nut he will still play injured which is great for the Cats as a team because Jelwood on one leg or half confused is still better than most of the cop but it does affect his scores. I won't count his score of 2 last year so I'll go off his next lowest score, 48 v WCE in Round 11. That's a whole 127 points lower than his highest score of the season, 175 v Saints in Round 5. not many players have such a gap between their highest and lowest scores of the season.

An interesting fact for you is he averaged 95ppg last season but only had four scores across the whole season with in twenty points of that average (ten points below that and ten above that).

Nah no stress mate, I know that's not what you were doing. That post was actually not just for you but for a lot of people I hear saying 'he always gets injured.' I see it all the time on other forums and from guys from Supercoach and the Traders etc. There's been like this myth created because he always gets injured, that he always misses games and it affects his scoring, when he's only had two seasons below 100 since 2009 and even then they've still been 95. When you look at those numbers and you look at the fact that he's priced in the mid 90's or so, you know there's a very realistic chance that he could improve that back up to his regular numbers of 105 PPG or so. Definitely not saying he's a top 8 mid, never has been in his career, but it was more a statement to sort of refute all of those persistent rumours that surround his consistency and injury history.

FYI, the 48 he scored last season was due to a Hutchings tag, and he similarly scored a 60 or so against the pies because of Greenwood. With Ablett, Danger and Duncan all in the middle, I can't see teams tagging him anywhere near as much, so I can't see him going below a 100 AV. this season. Also, the 70 was from a freak incident with bumbling Franklin falling on his ankle and causing him to have surgery. For two weeks he was still recuperating, but then by the Prelim he'd fully recovered and pumped out a 130 or so. I kind of wish those scores had counted haha, because he probably would have been 20 or 30K less and wouldn't be competing with guys like Steven and Cogs for a similar amount.

That is actually an interesting fact haha. I foresee this year as a bit of a 'let loose and just play' sort of year for him though, so I can't see there being a repeat. I'm still on the fence about picking him myself, but he's a very solid choice if you want someone for a cheap price who most certainly should perform week in and week out. I'm still leaning towards Cogs just because of his age and possible ceiling, but wouldn't begrudge anyone who would choose Sel.

I'll be watching him ever so closely now to see how he does go now! :tearsofjoy:

Only time will tell aye.

Thoughts on Shai Bolton for F5?
I am keen on him. Cheap and looked good in JLT. Most Tigers supporters have him in their round 1 team and he is a special talent so should get given every opportunity IMO. Only worry is when Rioli returns from injury

As a player I'm super excited about him but one I'd stay clear from. I think he's just a bit to expensive mate, he's not going to rack up a lot of the ball and Richmond don't usually demand a lot of stats from are forwards it's more about the pressure acts, tackling and the transiting of the football. On top of that because we have so small forwards his job security is questionable.

Thoughts on Harry Himmelberg? Listed as a defender and only 347K. Looks to have a similar role to Cameron as a mobile tall. If Lobb is rucking and those 3 are down there, should get a decent amount of it. Only priced at around 50 but looks to have upside and should get DPP in Round 6

Also, to the Richmond boys, do Lambert and Caddy look to have upside this year? Caddy has gone 90 AV. in the past and Lambert had a good year last year. Have been looking pretty closely at Caddy but not sure if Dimma is just all smoke, or if he really will get that increased mid time now that Prestia is out and Martin will play more forward

I need help, do I pick Zorko or Dusty?

I currently have Mitchell, Merrett, Zorko, Gibbs Neale and Coniglio. But I can’t decide whether I should have dusty or Zorko. Any ideas

Looking solid mate, I really like your forwardline dude. The three premos with Petracca at F4 is hpw I'm wanting to line up but I just haven't been able to strip enough cash elsewhere to make the changes.

Midfield looks good, you've got the two proven premos/captain options with Titch and Zerrett you then have Neale and Cripps who will be able to pump out the big scores whilst still making you cash. O'Meara and the rookies will provide you with a lot of cash generation for the season.

I'm interested in your Cam O'Shea selection, no one really knows if he's going to play on Thursday night. I'd expect a lot of people to jump on him if he's named tomorrow. If he's not named what will you do? Jump up to a Naughton or try and nail a 170k rookie

Lambert is actually my favorite Tiger, as I'm sure you can tell with the display pic. He had a really good season last year, was unreal. He's not a real ball magnet or going to kick two or three goals every single week so consistency of scores may fluctuate and I don't think he'll be able to improve that average a whole heap so he won't be a top six forward.

On Caddy I can't see his role changing a whole heap from last year, he's almost a second fiddle to Riewoldt and no one else at the club can really play that role (Other than Townsend who shared that with him over the final), I can't see a lot changing from last season.

He should get a bit more midfield time and attend a few more centre bounces with Prestia out but that won't continue in every game.
