Steele Sidebottom will be right in the hunt for his back-to-back Copeland Trophy’s in 2018, along with his first All-Australian selection, much deserved after the consistency shown by the boy from Shepparton. I can see him spending more time forward with the likes of Jordan De Goey maturing. He can kick it to the forward’s advantage under pressure, and provide another goal scoring option when given the time to play forward.

I even had a dream that Steele Sidebottom would be captain before he retires and that isn’t unlikely given his improvement as a leader in the last year. The boys really follow his lead on and off the field and that will be a determining factor when Pendles gives the C away.

PS I highly recommend Pendles gives the C away for Sidey to take the reigns.

I'm not overly fussed about these individual awards but fantastic recognition for the year he's had. Up till the last 5-6 rounds he was on-track for another Copeland, then Grundy came home with a wet sail and has likely grabbed that.

So happy for Sidey. He stands out as a player that loves his footy and given the long-term contract he signed, loves the club.

When I first decided to choose him as my avatar for this year, I choose it because some posters didn't view him like I did and although I would normally change for the finals, have become superstitious so am keeping it all the way through.

I'll never forget the poster who wanted to trade Sidebottom and pick 25 for pick 15 and Charlie Cameron. That was in the 2016 trade period. He posted on the Adelaide board they all asked where they could sign.

I read somewhere else that a number of the senior players also took a salary cut ($20K-$30K) to fit Beams in.
