Re: Uncontracted players at the end of 2011

Will be interesting to see CS' philosophy on trading at year's end.
I would imagine we would only trade players that were happy to go. Our culture is far more important than one good player.
But the scenario where a SJ type said screw it I can get 500+k for GCS/GWS for the last 2 years would surely be acceptable to both parties?

Trade bait....

Hogan, Blake (lol), Varcoe, Gillies, Hawkins

Re: Uncontracted players at the end of 2011

Varcoe and Hawkins won't be going anywhere. And I'd suggest that the relationship between Hogan and the club after what he's been through this year would mean he's not likely to move either. Wouldn't get much for the other two IMO.

I tend to agree. I don't reckon we'll be trading much at all tbh, but the club has to do due diligence and explore offers.
I suspect the players we are happy to trade have little interest for others, and the ones others want we would want too much for.
Happy for us to "roll our own".

Agreed Ammo. Why would we trade off one of our few run and carry players? Especially when the other one is 31 years old. And some people on this board seem to think that KP forwards grow on trees.

If we ended up with a couple of first round picks then yes, probably.

I'd rather not lose anyone but given SJ's injury history I'd be less willing to give him a long term vets list contract like the one Jimmy just got, so if he wanted that and walked for GWS if they offered ridiculous money then I could live with it if we got a decent return.

I'd rather not lose anyone really but I could live with losing SJ more than I could Jimmy (obviously that was never in doubt but I'm just making a point) or Harry or even Kel, or any of the young guns.

On the trade bait, nah.

Blake has no value-delist, Hogan will stay, Varcoe is a big part of the future and while Hawkins frustrates sometimes, our KP cupboard is too bare to consider trading him. Same thing with Gillies and our young KPB stocks, although with his poor form this year I suppose it's possible if a genuinely good offer came up.

Re: Uncontracted players at the end of 2011

After picking myself up off the floor at the suggestion of Varcoe and Hawkins for trade I took anothter look at the list and decided Gillies was the only one that is likely..

I got the impression that CS wan't a big fan of Gillies at one of his press conferences...or at least didn't think he was a realistic chance to break back into the team.

If the coach actually believes as I have interpreted, then maybe Gillies would be better off traded.

that might create a problem post-Scarlett....though there is really no solution to that problem...Scarlett is a once in a generation full back.

What gave you that impression? (not having a go, just wondering)

I did find it incredibly surprising that last week when Taylor was in doubt Scott mentioned Gillies as being in the mix. Now maybe he was being very liberal with that, but it did surprise me he would say that given the year Gillies has had.

From a list management point of view, with the number of KPP we have close to retiring and the lack of KPP on the list overall it doesn't make a lot of sense to trade Gillies, although I considered it because some of his very poor games this year give me the impression of a player who maybe needs a new environment. If the club feel Bathie and Walker are making real progress and are viable options it might be something they'd consider in terms of testing Gillies value in the market, although I reckon it's an outside chance, and much more likely he'll be here next year.

Re: Uncontracted players at the end of 2011

IT was one of his press conferences P.O.....I can't remember which...and it was just the impression I got.

I may have been wide of the mark...and its true that Gillies hasn't come on much the last two seasons. Maybe he does need a new environment...time will tell.

There's a lot of love for Bathie round here....

Re: Uncontracted players at the end of 2011

Luv the Bathie!!!!

Time will tell but i reckon the tools are there.....

Scarlo, Lonners, HT, Bathie would be some great tall KPD if he comes on....

Add a Smedts and Guthrie

Back 6 of 2012 - 2013?

Maybe there is room for no Gillies.... although I actually like his play....

I just never want Scarlo not there...lol

GO Catters...

Re: Uncontracted players at the end of 2011

I see Trade Bait and Hawkins in the same line in this thread , are we still think he would be a good trade option? I say no. Shows how it can change very quickly.

For mine , I wouldn't force any player out the door but I might tell them to have a look at Dasher,Mooney etc this year and see if your happy with that.

Re: Uncontracted players at the end of 2011

Hey , I had Ottens gone at the start of the year. So what the hell do I know.

LOL....and I had Drum UP FORWARD...I like the radical!!

Hopefully no-one saw that brilliant prediction.

Hawk was never going anywhere. I'm amazed at how few people take note of what is said by the people who make these decisions at the club before they post.

It's essential there's renewal of the list each year. As happens each year there will be retirements, some who will want to pursue their careers elsewhere and some who it will be suggested should pursue their careers elsewhere.

People that thought Hawkins were always wide of the mark, one only had to look at the overall state of our list, particularly in regards to tall forwards, to realise that he wasn't going to be traded. The club has invested a lot of time into him and despite his up and down form at times, and injury issues, he's improving and last night showed that. Will be here for a long time.

In regards to the second point, I don't think the club will need to 'tell' them, they all (i.e. our older senior players) have a close bond with Dash and Moons and seeing them fall out of the side will be instructive for them when they are making their decisions about whether to go on another year etc, a word won't need to be said for it to have an impact.

Back on topic, great news with Kel, in ripping form and great that he'll finish a 1 club player :thumbsu:

Re: Uncontracted players at the end of 2011

Just re reading the OP

We have got 24 odd players coming out of contract at the end of the year

Thought we would have a lot more of the guy's signed up by now

Re: Uncontracted players at the end of 2011

I have it on good authority that Simpson will be sticking around

Very good news if true. :thumbsu:
