List Mgmt. Players under the pump 2019

Not sure if Under the Pump is the right term seeing as he only just re-signed but one player that need to lift is Ollie Wines.

I was pretty disappointed in his 2018 season. Everything was set up for him to play himself into the role of Club Captain, but instead his form mirrored our season with a few good games, a few horrible games but mostly just meh. If AFL was purely analytical or “Moneyball” you could mount a case that based on Ollie’s output the past few seasons, we would be better off with Cameron Ellis-Yolmen, who would give you 80% of the output at 25% of the price. Now ideally Ollie will fix his kicking, dominate games and take his game to that next level where he is in AA calculations….but we’ve been waiting for that since 2014.
2nd in the B&F, under absolutely 0 pressure.

Not a player but Pauly V.

Will probably get slammed for it but how many attitude / behavioral issues with our indigenous players over the last couple of years. Impey, AJ, SPP, Paddy & Wingard.

Pauly V isn't employed by the club as a babysitter for the Aboriginal lads, their behaviour has nothing to do with him.

Pauly V is the director of aboriginal programs as Teekray says. He's not a chaperone. He does and oversees community work.
Player welfare managers are probably more responsible for that stuff but even they aren't babysitters. We can only coach them on right and wrong and so on, but ultimately we aren't supervising them all the time and nor should we.

That may be correct but clearly there is something wrong with the culture of the group when we are having ongoing issues. Who is responsible for creating the culture? If my employees were behaving in this way I know where the buck would stop.

Yeah so tell me when a business was held responsible for the behaviour of their employees in their down time? Carn, the club doesn't live with these people and can't dictate to them as to who they hang out with and when.

The club isn't completely absolved as their education should help to prevent but the issue is extremely complex particularly with aboriginal people.

Head in the sand stuff. SPP, Wingard & Johnson all guilty of not presenting in a professional manner in the last 2 years. That's a culture problem (ie. business culture not talking about their culture). Pauly V whether employed to do so or not by the club plays the leading role of creating the culture amongst that group. So what is going wrong and how does it change?

Ollie Wines has the ability to be among the best ten in the competition but he isn't. Last year was far from Ollie's best and finishing second in our B&F in what most of us would say was a mediocre year is no real guide. Ollie Wines is no orphan as we have several other high profile players who have to play up to their ability.

When you do not place pressure on players to perform you encourage complacency and every player should be under pressure to perform regardless as to where they finish in the B&F.

Players that would have to have a good season to stay on our list:

1. Hewett - has done nothing to suggest he is AFL standard

2. Ladhams - ruckman develop slowly but only a dearth of ruck options would keep him on for another year

3. Johnson - new players (Farrell, Rozee, Woodcock) look better prospects already

4. Amon - vanilla and new players look a better prospect (Rozee, Butters, Burton, Pudney, Mayes)

5. Sam Gray - see Johnson/Amon above

6. McKenzie - only a dearth of KPD options would keep him on for another year

7. Frampton - will have to play some games to see if he is AFL standard only a dearth of KPF options would keep him on for another year

8. Trengove - new players like (Duursma, Mayes, Burton) look better options

9. Broadbent - would have to have an injury free year - see Trengove above
I defiantly agree, but defiantly not for Sam Gray.

So if Paul V is responsible, then so if Boak for SPP and Angus Monfries and co for Impey and Johnson. Paul V has been fantastic for helping our indigenous players connect with their culture and wider indigenous community. At the end of the day they're still flawed human beings like the rest of us. He's helped craft them into role models who care more for their community, but he's not a miracle worker.

Boak ebert and Sgray for mine are senior players who were / are best 22 that are under the gun.
Sgray is depth at best now.
Boak isnt a HFF and if he cant crack the midfield his position should be in trouble.
Ebert, if he cant tidy up his disposal etc hopefully a few younger guys pass him also
Agree. The situation with boak is not pleasant, it's a bit like Danny Rowe from the movie 'The Club', difference was they were able to move Danny to a back pocket. We did the same with cassisi. I don't see boak as being able to play any position other than centre effectively.

Just because someone is contracted after 2019 season ends, doesn't mean they aren't under the pump to be traded out, especially if they become a free agent at end of 2020 as we saw with Wingard. Also Pittard had signed a 3 year deal when he come became a free agent at end of 2017.

Ebert bloody well should be

I don’t know how he kept his spot last year with a 19d 2.5 clr season.

For a guy who does horrible things with the ball, isn’t a clearance mid, and only has gut running ball magnet as his strengths 19d is a abysmal failure.

He is also a horrible fit next to Rockliff and wines

I’ve absolutely got him pegged for sanfl next year and don’t want him near the afl side unless he is 25+d week in week out and even then I still don’t think he is a good fit.

Atleys development must be prioritised over Ebert in 2019.

Disposals may not be his biggest priority either. He gets thrown around the ground so much.

Maybe he needs to kick more goals when forward and defend better when down back. At the moment he's a pretty average utility.

Can we stop having expectations on Broadbent? It’s killing me, the guy is approaching 30, has t played for two seasons, reoccurring ankle injury, put a fork in him, he’s done.

Shhhh

I’m losing confidence since surely he’d be back by now, so perhaps Ken doesn’t rate him anymore but I still think Cobra has plenty to offer.
