Surely Warrick Capper deserves a mention for getting on someones shoudlers 5 minutes before the ball even arrived

And Nick Reiwoldt not for being the instigator but on the receiving end of the tunneling rule

Nice melt. You took it too far by adding Gibbo.

And Goodes is well in front of Hodge because the AFL turned a blind eye to it for years. Hodge was rubbed out many times.
TBH, I don't recall Goodes being too much of a sniper. I can only recall about 4 or 5 snipes by Gibbo, so you are right, he is way down the list compared with the other 2;)

Goodes was a serial offender at sliding in to players knees first. He was a serial offender at swinging his elbows at players during contests and around-the-ground ruck contests.

But very rarely ever penalised for it. Always called accidental. But I would think if someone has a history of repeatedly accidentally doing something maybe its not accidental.

You know, like was decided with Mitchell using his knee to protect himself when shepherding.

Gibson was a serial tunneller, because of hsi height it was a tactic he used to combat the taller forwards

With the current interest in Luke Shuey's free kick I thought it might be time to list players who have caused the rules to be changed.

1. Kevin Bartlett. Was adept at bouncing the ball the instant he was tackled to get a free kick. Rule was changed to make the act of bouncing part of possession.
2. Joel Selwood & Luke Shuey. Are adept at raising their arms when tackled to make the tackle too high. Rules changed to prevent that but perhaps needs some tweaking.
3. Brent Guerra & 'that Richmond player' who were adept at conceding a rushed behind to prevent a goal. Rule changed to prevent deliberate rushing of behinds. Very subjective rule.
4. Jordan Lewis (& others). Were adept at getting advantage going 3rd man up at ball ups. Rules changed to prevent that. Unfortunately the changes were not thought through resulting in stupid outcomes.
5. Player whose name I forget. (Anyone remember?) Did ACL in centre ball up. Rules changed to stop long run ups by the rucks. Might have been linked to the rubber bounce pad that was used for a while.

Any other nominations?
Rule 5 was introduced to stop PCL injures not the Shaun Rehn not the Footy Park bounce plate

Didn't the 15m penalty get extended to 50m because there was some game where 10 15m penalties were given out and it was clear that no one cared about giving it away?
Wasn't Sheedy using the 15m penalty as a time wasting tactic?

"Goodes was a massive sniper" is honestly one of the biggest loads of revisionist garbage going around. Anyone who peddles it is a moron with an obvious agenda to push.

The guy played 372 games, so obviously there were some moments where he wasn't 100% clean. He had a weird period in 2008 where he was on some angry pills, but even then there was nothing major.

The suspension he got for sliding against Surjan is one of the worst calls I've ever seen. Two players performing the exact same action, and because the ball bounced a different way, Goodes got a suspension. Then you get brain dead people pointing at this as some example of him being a sniper. Thankfully the thumbnail for the Youtube video shows both players doing the exact same thing:

The fairytale rule: if you are a mediocre club from the western suburbs of Melbourne with limited success you are gifted a premiership through favourable officiating.
Also can be applied to a lesser extent when you are the only WA club left in the finals and are gifted a contentious free late in a final to stay in season and keep the west engaged....

I joke, I joke.

I might have missed it but Peter Hudson was responsible for the introduction of the centre diamond which became the centre square.

The Dean Gore rule...the what you ask
He was paid a free against in the preseason from a boundary throw in when he was not the nominated ruck and was looking towards the middle of the ground at the ruckmen. The boundary umpire could only throw the ball about 5m and it hit Gore on the back of the head without him seeing it.

Free kick against

Most bizarre thing I've ever seen on a football field. And maybe Dean Gore's most significant contribution to Australian Rules Football.

Err, now that's what I call inconsistent

2018 the AFL have announced they will increase the distance between the goal posts from 6.4m to 19.2m in an effort to increase scoring efficiency.

The change change is an outcome of the Charlie Dixon goalkicking summit held at Alberton featuring guest speakers Chad Whingegard and Travis Joke

Lindsay Thomas x2 - Gary Rohan thing and something else can't remember.
Mason Wood - The shot clock
Whole North side caused the Finals bye when we rested players before the 2015 finals.
Even though Freo had done it before and it was coined as "genius" or "creative"
When we did it there was outrage and angst and the AFL acted.
