Didn't Sanderson leave Geelong / Collingwood before a flag? Or maybe it was Neeld.

Either way, I remember seeing an ex-assistant who left the club during finals to take up a head coaching role hugging a player after a grand final won from the seating.

Clarkson did it in 2004 but I think they've tightened up allowance of those moves.

The rules have changed. Collingwood kicked up a stink in 2011 as they lost Neeld and the year before lost someone. So of course the rules were changed about poaching assistants and we had to go thru the BS last year. But thank christ after Ken getting cold feet it meant Cameron being drawn out to after the GF and then he changed his mind.

Heard on AA yesterday that it was cheaper for Freo supporters to fly from Perth to New Zealand then from New Zealand to Melbourne than get a direct flight from Perth to Melbourne. Gouging anyone?

Yeah heard that last night

There's a few threads, a couple on the Freo boards and this one on the main that tell you the prices. Apparently is $880 for a bus fare to Melbourne and back. 100 hours on a bus for no sleep.

I have an acquaintance who is going via KL to save money. The cost of flights have more than tripled.

That's obscene. The ACCC should fine their arses off.

From the main board thread earlier today

Freo fans - Qantas have put on a 747 flight on Friday afternoon, leaving 2:30pm arriving into Melbourne at 8pm. Be quick!
Wow, tickets are $1,185 ONE WAY.

I know some people who had to go to Brisbane for the weekend. Cheapest they could get, booking just before the prelim, was around $1200 return. Nuts.

The charter flight I got on (the Wednesday before the prelim) is $900 return, which I was miffed about for the 20 seconds before I checked qantas, Virgin, Jetstar and Tiger prices.

From the Freo board

Hi all,

I have a return flight to Melbourne for sale. The flight leaves Friday arvo at 13:50 and leaves Melbourne on Sunday at 20:20. The flights cost me $1600. I am happy to sell them at cost plus the name change charge. Please PM if you would like to buy them.

Last time I checked an airline seat still looks exactly the same whether you book it 4 weeks before you travel or 4 days. **** capitalism.

Seeing as WA'ians are always keen to secede with their mineral wealth, we could round them up on their way back in from KL and Auckland etc and relocate them in PNG. :p

If they're lucky their families will get a media release at the end of the week.

And what about those poor bastards from WA if its a draw and the greedy AFL rules say there has to be a replay.
Not to mention having to go through a ballot again to get tickets to the corporate event in the first place.

Let's not go too crazy here.

I doubt you'd get a hotel room for less than $200 a night in Melbourne this weekend either.

On what basis? No one's got a gun to their head.

The airline companies are colluding to drive prices up.

ACCC
The ACCC promotes competition and fair trade in markets to benefit consumers, businesses, and the community. We also regulate national infrastructure services. Our primary responsibility is to ensure that individuals and businesses comply with Australian competition, fair trading, and consumer protection laws - in particular the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
ACCC

There's nothing fair about the prices they are charging. It's price gouging.

Would flying to Sydney (or a regional centre) and driving in be an option?

Supply & Demand biatches. Supply and demand.

They could also argue that they need to cover the expense of the return flight with very few passengers on it.
