Mike Sheahan recently did his top 50, and Fox Sports allowed people to vote for each player as being underrated, overrated or to agree with Mike's positioning of the player in the top 50. Victorian crowd and media favourite Jonathan Brown came it at number 34 on Mike's rank, but astonishingly he ranked at number 5 in the public's view. In contrast, Warren Tredrea ranked 47 on Mike's chart, and 48 with the public. I know it's great that Warren's in there and all and to be fair, a spot around the 40 mark is probably about right for him, but sheesh, Brown is hideously overrated.

60-odd percent have Tredders overrated at 48?

He was the best CHF in the comp for literally half a decade. Carn.

Browny! Knockabout bloody aussie bloke, pwoah you don't get those characters in the game these days ay. Defiantly (sic) top 5!

A true champion, gentleman. He's what all future CHFs must mold their game, and life on. I want Wazza back :p

If Brown wasn't a throwback knockabout lad from country Victoria history wouldn't be quite kind to him. Good player, massively over rated.

It's weird.

Got more kudos when he was a patchy kid playing third banana behind Lynch and Bradshaw than he ever did when he was genuinely starring circa 07-09.

Surely I wasn't the only one who read this in JB's voice?

I feel Bradshaw was twice the player Brown was.

So Sloane got a 1000 fine and a "reprimand" and so did Young.
But the other incident when whoever that spud was tried to "spoil" the ball with his body when the ball was already 3 metres out of play past the boundary and could of smashed Gray's head in to the concrete wasn't looked at.

To be fair, O'Shea clothes lined a crows player on the wing very late, which was hilarious, but it wasn't looked at either.

Even J Browns leadership was overrated. I remember him wearing a mic during a game and all he did was grumble a few noises like some Neanderthal.

While presiding over a pretty woeful period for the Lions as well. Let's compare him to his contemporaries

Carey: Premiership captain
Tredrea: Premiership Captain
Hall: Premiership Captain
Pavlich: Grand Finalist, sustained period of flag threat
Riewoldt: Grand Finalist, sustained period of flag threat.

You can argue that he didn't have the team, but if we're allowed to bring the rest of the team into the discussion, you can write off his 3 flags as he was a 2nd tier ridealong and 3rd banana to Lynch and Bradshaw.

Not your finest post there EL

Carey was 25.5 years, Tredders was 25.75 years, Hall was 28.5 years, Pavlich 31.75 years, Riewoldt 26.9 years when these guys either held their first premiership cup or made their first GF. Brown was 20.9 years old when he won his first flag and in 2003 when he won his 3rd at 22.9 years he was the number 1 forward at the Lions. The big key in all of these comparisons in premiership years or GF years is look at the mid field and how good it was and for how long both before and after those GFs.
