Every game in 2016 we start with 2 of our best 22 missing - Guaranteed before any injuries or suspensions.

Two is fine, in fact for list development it's excellent. The art is in selecting who comes in, the experienced C-grader, the talented prospect for the future playing one of his couple of games that year to get him to extend his initial contract, the borderline player whose value you want to pump up because you're going to offer him for trade.

Andrew Moore? Sam Colquhoun? Aaron Young? **** me, we really were scraping the bottom of the barrel last year. No Carlile, no Polec, Jonas out of form and playing in the SANFL...oh, and no Ollie Wines.

Yeah there's still plenty of stars left in that team though, Boak, Gray, Hartlett, Wingard, Ryder etc. It's certainly not our best 22 but we had plenty of talent left and should've dispatched Carlton without too much drama.

I wouldn't mind being screwed over at away games by the umpires if we got the reciprocal home ground benefit. We're the only non-Vic side who doesn't get it though Considering we are the loudest fans these days I'm not sure what's going on there.

Generally doing the whole umpire whinge is pointless, but although we've had games we've had the better rub from the umpires, we've had multiple one's where we've been not just worse off, but so much it's Melbourne Comedy festival level (and about as funny). North in Tassie in 13, Carlton last year just the most recent. Just once I'd like a game where even our fans leave the stadium feeling embarrassed, it was that one sided in our favour.

Subiaco is a legitimate house of pain. I can't remember the exact statistics, but WCE in particular enjoy an obscene free kick differential so their banshee carry-on and constant booing actually works. Time and again.

When it comes to Football Park and Adelaide Oval, there's always been a big song'n'dance about the umpires not being swayed by the partisan crowd. So our players - Tredrea in particular - pretty much have to be beheaded to get frees and even then, opposition teams can generally get away with far more than the mean when they come here.

With the Subiaco effect behind us you do wonder just how different certain games would've gone.

This game showed a blaring hole of not being able to slow the game down and get some control.

Sure it wasn't our absolute best 22, but IMO that's more a statement of how bloody good our best 22 can be rather than an indictment on that team there. That's still a pretty quality 22 that a lot of teams would kill for. A full spine with Trengove, Hombsch, Ryder/Lobbe, Westy, Schulz, and a gun on ball brigade with Gray, Boak, Hammer, and Ebo. Add in the extra class of Wingard, Pittard, White, Neade, and Broady and the lineup absolutely should not have been an issue.

White our only line breaker in that game. Why we had Moore and Young instead of Amon in for one of them at least was a mystery. If there's one ground where plodders get exposed more then any other it's Etihad and we had Moore and Aaron 'I'm not a bad player, but I'm so slow to dispose I get tackled for HTB almost every game' Young. Talk about taking a team missing key players then picking about the worse side for conditions on top of it that match.

I think the very reason why Subiaco works is the reason why the umpires are at great pains to make sure Adelaide Oval doesn't. They've let the Western Australians get away with so much shit when it comes to influencing the outcome of matches that they simply can't rectify it without it looking like a conspiracy against two teams that probably contribute the most to the equalisation fund. So instead of reigning them in, the umpires have decided as a collective that our home ground will be a neutral venue to compensate.

In short, we have to pay the differential that West Coast and Fremantle receive.

Nah, I could take the Richmond in the rain loss for the 140th, I sat right to the end of the Suns loss, I clapped Chad off against Collingwood and watched 2007 more than once.

But we were so set up by those scummy bastards, I called it before the game and what went on was disgraceful. For the first time ever I gave my membership card to my mate and told him I wasn't coming to the next game. It went against everything sport is supposed to be for me.

I realise I am in a very small minority (of possibly one) though.

Re poor performances, I would have thought the 2007 gf debacle would have beaten any other loss in the history of the PAFC by the length of the Flemington straight.
The magnitude of that loss is unlikely to be surpassed for generations - if Ever!

I have the Bulldogs game at number 1 because it was easentially an elimination final and we just didn't show up. There was no urgency, no desperation, just a flaccid display all round. Apart some Sam Gray, that little bugger ran his arse off all day.

I was using the word "pay" in a different context to what you are thinking. Pay as in "we can't allow a situation like Subiaco to happen again so we have to be straight down the line and not be influenced at all". Once you allow something to start, it's very hard to go against it - so it's better to nip it in the bud.

The problem is, in doing so they've gone too far the other way and reduced any home ground advantage when it comes to umpiring to zero.

2015 was such a frustrating and shitty season because we had the talent, training, coaching and support to be top 4 and we played like Carlton in so many games. IMO it was more devasting that 2011 and 2012 because we were struggling with players and shit coaches then. We had NO EXCUSE last year. We lacked endeavour and mongrel and teams knew it.

I stayed til the end but it was not pleasant. It was great to see the amazing turnaround at the Hawks game a couple of weeks later but I couldn't help but get even more annoyed about the Bulldogs game at the same time.

I am so glad they showed plenty of mongrel in those last few games and I'm glad we have now added a mongrel in Big Dixon. Plus Butch has shown plenty of mongrel in the SANFL. Never thought I would enjoy melees as I did at the end of last year. It was like opening the floodgates after a year sprinkled with insipidness and frustration.

It doesn't matter how shit Carlton or we were that day, that game was actively handed to them.

I think it is very important that umpires aim for an even free kick ratio rather than pay the frees that are actually there.
