One of his former coaches at centrals (a port supporter) reckons he's going to be a gun, and could well play round one.
He IS a gun, no doubt whatsoever.

Panic about we keep our stars, they lose their's, so they try to manufacture their youngsters are one's in the making. And then they wonder why they either crack or want out due to unrealistic pressure. Leading to the next lot of youngsters to be put under the pump. Rinse and repeat.
And lock the customers out from training so they can't put pressure on the newly manufactured stars and only read tales about them in the newspaper that is the main competitor of their second-tier sponsor. Awesome.

Lycett in the news for missing this weeks NAB. Reminded me about him and wonder if he is on our radar at all, could easily be our next recruit if rucks continue to be an issue on our list moving forward.

Now if we could have less players going into the media and instead have qualified people who aren't backslapping buffoons, that'd be dardy.
Some new straight to the point quality broadcasters would be good & they should always look for the next up n' comer.. if some 25 year old kid who's never played at a high level is a good commentator/presenter so be it give em a crack.

*Denn is retiring, Bruce is getting on & BT is ordinary

Lobbe could get back to his best, Ryder will be back & Frampton is good kid comin' through so I doubt we'd be on his radar.

Nup, we will see more of Gillon's brother.......

Just a random thought, is it relevant that Brendon Bolton never played AFL? I just find that it's unusual for a senior coach to have never played the game at the highest level.

Ever heard of John Cahill!

My brother.

Carn' REH he was a champ in the SANFL glory days & also played state of origin it's a tad different.
Never said he wasn't. The question didn't say what time frame. Plus I noticed Neil Craig was there in another reply.

I've got no memory of him coaching us lol
Fair enough given your age.

Here is a list that stats guru Ron The Bear put together in late 2013, Many are WAFL or SANFL champs pre the national comp and the first VFL coach and first VFL premiership coach was Jack Worrall who was a champion VFA player, a VFL umpires' coach and Test cricketer.

Oh come on. Dixon is the poor man's Tex, didn't you know.

I'm all for non-players taking up roles in and around the AFL. Good for Bolton.

Being a senior coach in the AFL these days is as much a management role as a football role. Clubs have that many specialist positions for development coaches, line coaches, recruiting staff, list management staff, etc, that the technical skills of a senior coach are almost irrelevant compared to their ability to manage and lead the football department and football team. A bit of a footy background helps and certainly gets your foot in the door but there is actually no reason why someone would need to have played football at any sort of high level to coach in the AFL.

There's a pretty good feel about Bolton and rightly so.

He's had real life experience coaching successfully in the TSL, transitioned through the VFL and the players and coaches who have played under/worked with him have been very vocal in their pleasure in seeing him rise through the AFL ranks.

Will be a pretty tough couple of years for him results wise, but as good an appointment as they could make.

brendan bolton is a good guy and was a very good state footballer. i saw him play a few times and he was always the smallest guy on the field but had a crack and never shirked a contest. someone once told me he wears kids size footy boots, but they are actually size 6.
