That may or may not be so, but how will their beleaguered defence cope with Dixon, Schulz, Westhoff, Wingard etc?View attachment 216957
Rucci quotes Riley Knight as saying "our attacking game will beat any defence this year".
Not "can beat" but "will beat". Big call.
Their All-Australian defenders Luke Brown (who has never been beaten by Wingard), "Jenny" Talia, "Riley" Laird and "Dick" Cheney will have no trouble dealing with Charlie "poor man's Jenkins" Dixon, a passed it Schulz, a lazy Westhoff and a "not as good as Charlie Cameron" Wingard. That may or may not be so, but how will their beleaguered defence cope with Dixon, Schulz, Westhoff, Wingard etc?

I guess if they manage to score one time in a game that's technically true?View attachment 216957

I rate Jenkins and think he would be automatically in our best 22 - especially without ryder

The incomparable Sir Donald Bradman with the poise and nimbleness of a dancer reputedly wore size 5 shoes.brendan bolton is a good guy and was a very good state footballer. i saw him play a few times and he was always the smallest guy on the field but had a crack and never shirked a contest. someone once told me he wears kids size footy boots, but they are actually size 6.

I look forward to him doing well. After all, Crows turned him down, would be nice to see them with egg on their faceThere's a pretty good feel about Bolton and rightly so.
He's had real life experience coaching successfully in the TSL, transitioned through the VFL and the players and coaches who have played under/worked with him have been very vocal in their pleasure in seeing him rise through the AFL ranks.
Will be a pretty tough couple of years for him results wise, but as good an appointment as they could make.

Fair enough given your age.
Here is a list that stats guru Ron The Bear put together in late 2013, Many are WAFL or SANFL champs pre the national comp and the first VFL coach and first VFL premiership coach was Jack Worrall who was a champion VFA player, a VFL umpires' coach and Test cricketer.

The culture in this country that says you must have played at the elite level to even have an opinion - let alone coach - is hilariously stupid.
On of the best coach/announcer types in the NFL is John Gruden. Was a backup QB who barely played in College that was not a major player.Removing guys like Cahill and Craig who were elite footballers at a time when the SANFL's very best were on par with the VFL's very best, that is a shameful list.
- Bill Belichick highest playing level: Wesleyan University, NCAA Div III
- Jose Mourinho highest playing level: Rio Ave, Portuguese Second Division
- Mike 'Coach K' Krzyzewski: Army, NCAA Div I-AA
- Gregg Popovich: Air Force, NCAA Div I

I wouldn't say precludes, but it makes the less naturally talented player who had to think hard for positioning etc. on the field to get a game and play well more likely to succeed. The whole 'champion player, great coach' is the big fallacy. Not since 2005 (if you count Roos as a champion player) has the premiership coach being a champion player. And going back 20 years, 6 years (Matthews x 3, Blight x2) with one. And those you can argue Brisbane before and after show a lot of that was the dual benefit of the cap space plus Fitzroy merger benefits. Whilst Adelaide benefited from a finals system so stupid they changed it after their flags from positions that these days would have seen them out week 1 or 2.I'd even go so far as to say that being a naturally gifted footballer probably inhibits your ability to see the game at a higher tactical level.
Once again Tredrea tops Primus.I remember talking to Tredrea at one of our season launches about coaching and he was straight up about the fact that he didn't think he could do it to the level that would be required.

People look at the 1997 and 1998 finals series as the ones that highlight how ridiculous the Macintyre River Final Eight System was but 1999 is another example and, as you say, the thing that finally convinced the AFL to ditch the system. It actually took until Carlton (12-10) made a Grand Final from sixth place and losing an away final in week one by 12 goals - with a further assist from the MCG policy - the year after.
And kids these days think the sub rule was stupid.
Just a random thought, is it relevant that Brendon Bolton never played AFL? I just find that it's unusual for a senior coach to have never played the game at the highest level.
Jenkins is a 6'6 joe the goose specialist, most underwhelming 40 plus goal kicker in the history of the game.If we had no Dixon, I wouldn't turn down a Jenkins. A 40 goal return is nothing to scoff at, using him at a few stoppages in the forward line while Ryder is aol would be handy.
However, when Jenkins plays bad it is as painfully noticeable as a Chaplin.
As JimmyBeerCans posted, you have to look at when and how Jenkins kicks most of his goals. If we had no Dixon, I wouldn't turn down a Jenkins. A 40 goal return is nothing to scoff at, using him at a few stoppages in the forward line while Ryder is aol would be handy.

Rarely does he kick a bag of goals when the Crows need a forward to stand up and take control of the game. That is usually left to Walker or Betts. In the few Crows games I watched last season Jenkins mostly seemed to get the ball on a platter in the goal square or kick a few in junk time when the game was already won.
He's not called "Junk Time" Jenkins for nothing.
