Rumour doing the rounds in the Diamond Valley (now Northern Footy League) that Football Victoria wants to merge the NFL and EDFL as soon as next season. I known followers of the NFL aren't too happy about the idea. Was wondering if any EDFL fans had also heard the story and what EDFL fans reaction to a merger would be?

What about if two struggling Clubs one from each competition looked like merging but playing out of the NFL Clubs rooms that are in the NFL zone.

Could that provide a platform for the EDFL to move slightly into the NFL area?

yeah wont happen!!! the only way anything like that would happen is 4 the edfl 2 bring in a div 3 and have the lower tier b grade teams with the teams from both nfl and or wrfl in the region join e.g. gladdy park, coburg districts etc.

If this ever goes down i reckon the league would be divided with some going to the Western Region ie East, Marby, Avondale, Sydenham, Greenvale,Douttas, Airport West and Keilor leaving everyone the other side of the Tulla Freeway, Pacoe Road and Moonee Ponds Creek to play in the Northern comp.

I can see a split at some point in the near future particularly if the likes of Melton and Sunbury decide to leave the Ballarat league, I can see 2 Super comps in a similiar mould to the Eastern around the corner. A Western and a Northern it would almost resemble the old Western Jets and Northern Knights zones prior to the entry of the Cannons.

However given that Football Victoria screwed a whole heap of traditional country leagues and zones a little over 10 years ago don't be suprised if they just say this is what were doing. As with everything no one likes change but its inevitable.

It wont happen there is just too many big heads within the EDFL Pricey, Brett Scott, Arthur Crofts etc etc who need the edfl for there status within the community and would hate to have any threat to this. They are all old school with no real vision for local footy and dont have the balls to make any hard decisions like this would need.

If you look at it wholy it just makes sence to combine the leagues as would be stronger competition from A grade down to the D grade. It would allow struggling sides like Hadfield moral boosting wins and would be able to retain players who at the moment prob get sick of getting smashed every week. Would also put an end to this whole Greenvale, Strathmore, Marby are ruining the EDFL because if you had Bundoora & Heidleberg doing the same would be a bloody strong competition.

The EDFL need to think outside the small little sqaure that they are in..
