Agreed. Trading for 'big fish' costs too much and means you are relying on individuals over structure. We should take our great development of players as a sign to keep our first rounder and trade in role players and those second tier types that might flourish in our set up. Mayes is probably a good example.I reckon Sam Mayes will be our only trade this off season.
I think our philosophy is to look to upgrade players 10 - 22 on our list, players who are looking to move for reasons other than money. You have to pay overs to get elite talent into your club and bringing them in can destroy your depth like it has done to port.
With Freo's form they won't be getting Hogan or any other established KPP, so they will have a lot more money to throw at Lachie Neale than we will.
It's exactly what hawthorn have done exceptionally well
