Hi everyone.

Anyone got any idea what our boys have been doing in terms of running? I wouldn't mind having a glimpse of the running program to get some perspective into how hard our guys are working and to give it a go myself. Anyone privy to this information?

Inb4 opposition spies. lol
Maybe if anyone does have an idea you could even PM me if it's not the sort of thing that should be stuck on here.

Carry on. :D

I went along to a few sessions two pre-seasons ago and they would usually finish a skills session with a stack of repeat timed sprints. They were around the 400-600 metre mark with around 30-40 seconds jogging recovery in between. It went on for a good 20-30 minutes and looked bloody brutal especially in warm weather.

I agree, lots of hardcore running sessions have to be a good thing. Without wanting to deviate the thread though, I think the most important skill the Richmond players need to work on is all in the mind. I'm sure they have sports psychologist or similar professions involved with the boys but if so, need to up it with more sessions or better professionals involved. To not lose against the usual suspects and to put teams away after our usually great starts. These sessions for the mind play a huge part in all the physical aspects as well including hard gut running. Maybe port are well advanced in that field also??????????.

Ok, thanks guys. Keep the info coming to those know may know more!! :D

Hello everyone - first time poster here.

I'm huge on running and keeping fit, and like johnno77, I've been to some preseason training.

Most clubs, including Richmond, are really into HIIT (high-intensity interval training). As the preseason progresses, the distances increase and breaks between "sets" decreases. A lot of science and research has gone into HIIT and it's just about universally proven to be the best method to increase aerobic capacity by running.

Welcome to Richmond BF Godchin . I agree with your post. Cotcho I think I recall Lids saying in a video that they had come off 20 x 100m intervals . I'd say these intervals were done at 90-100% effort with rest periods from 1:1 to 1:4 ratio. Depending on how strong your conditioning I'd start at 1:4 work to rest interval. To see how you pull up. Hope this helps a bit ? Let me know if I can help, I have a background in this field. Cheers Cotcho

I thought they didn't even bother turning up. Or was that last year? :p
That was last year but Benny and Peggy have moved their desks so they can see out the windows of their offices so that won't happen again.

**** Port piss me off haha.
They are the most arrogant posters on big footy. They all believe they've won the flag already. It would please me no end to see them lose the first 5 games. I like to watch port but their idiot supporters make me hate them. Oh, it's got nothing to do with them flogging us on our quest for the flag last year either. Shit no. pricks.

I hope richmond aren't one of those 'other teams'.
The amount of leave they get is negotiated by the AFLPA, so unless you are a senior player that doesn't have to come back in the first week, no matter what club you are at, you get the same amount

Yeah, apparently they went on break before the RFC and came back sooner. Overall length was the same.

How's Lennon and Ellis going?

It would only take 1-2 injuries for this to happen. They are shit when they don't have their best 22 on the park
