I'm sticking by what I said last week: Tabs forward, A.Pearce back and Dawson out.
Everyone said I was stupid and that Dawson would nullify Tippet, 6 marks and 3 goals 1 later...
I know there wasn't a lot of pressure on their mids delivering the ball at times but he just gave him way too much space when he should have been manning him up.
Pick one of Muz, C.Pearce, Suban or DeBoer for Tabs.

Too be honest, Tippett would of destroyed AP. AP should of been in for Macca and is better suited for Reid than MJ.

Mundy didn't have a great 3rd- but neither did the rest of our mids. Kennedy and Hanners went nuts and we couldn't go with them. Mundy was gold early and important late.

To be fair, Tippett wasn't as manacing as he can be. He can explode for 10+ marks.
Dawson did a serviceable job - last three games vs Tippett (in total): 5 goals, 12 Marks.
Think we have to accept the fact that Alex Pearce won't be playing finals- he's back up.

Or maybe you are not giving enough credit to the swan's midfield because their delivery was pretty good?

There's nothing you can do with the kicks come in low and right on the chest, as most of the I50s from their midfield were.

They only kicked 60. Defence wasn't the big issue. I'm going back over the replay tonight to work out the facts, but from memory we got all of our goals from direct kicks to players on leads or by themselves, or individual efforts through congestion. I do not remember one goal that came from a pack mark after it got bombed into f50 (except sandi's 'non-mark').
I and others have been saying it for a while now but our scoring 'issue' is as simple as too many f50 entries are just bombing it in yet we rarely score from those entries. A complete waste of opportunities.
In my opinion we have the team to win the next two games. But, not if we waste our chances this way. If we want two or more goals per game, then we need to hit forwards or mids on leads. Everything thing else we are doing is working. That's why we keep winning. But the next team we play will unlikely let us get away with such a low score.
This is why i am so frustrated.
The other issue is playing half a game all year for whatever reason. It frustrated many of us and we were shouted down all year with "resting players" and other excuses. I call bullsh1t. What you do in practice you do in the game. Our practice was the H and A. We weren't able to play 4quarters how we wanted in our final in exactly the same manner. The same thing happened when north caught us. It's hard to break a habit. That's why it's good to avoid making bad ones. As for the added 'rest' helping during the season, well it's not like we got to sit on the bench. We were probably running around more as we were chasing tail and had less goal breaks. Hopefully we can play 4q how we want to in 2 weeks time.

Sorry didn't read all of your posts. I get you do not rate Dawson but IMO I do not think having Macca or AP would make a difference. They would not make contests either.

Tippett did his damage when Dawson wasn't on him, a stupid free v Clarke and a free against Dawson that we don't get in the gorward half.Most of Tippetts marks were outside 50 on the boundary.
Dawson 's closing down off loose men and impacting the contest to create a stoppage when he leaves his opponent is top shelf.
May help with offence from defense? As both of those players are smarter with the ball.
Maybe. My preference is still Macca + Dawson tall with MJ and Ibbo rotating as the spare or intercept mark. When Macca retires, Dawson/Silvagni + AP to replace

Tbh Macca's been below-average with his ball use this season. Wouldn't have confident in him either. At least when Dawson was told to kick it, he kicks it well clear of the 50.
I'm just a bit tired of someone having to go back to receive the handball from Dawson as he doesn't want to kick it. Just slows everything up. I know Macca's disposal by foot hasn't been great this year but at least he can kick it without needing to be told.

Can apply the same to Sandi, has a great kick on him yet always waits for Hill, Mundy to come and get a handball receive not even a metre away. Get that you're not a fan of Dawson's, but he stand up in finals and his closing speed on the loose man is exceptional. I'd back him to go in hard vs Duffield who skirts away from the contest.
