Scotch rest 7 to 9 apparently. Play some U19s to keep ressies competitive and lose by 13 goals. Season over for OT and Xavs. Anti climax?

OS tactics????? Im pretty sure Coll confidence is sky high. They also have a few to come back.
Maybe to cute by half..........only time will tell.

Old Scotch will win the 1st semi by 4 goals + in my opinion - Collegians just don't have the class that Scotch does, and Scotch had some genuine quality watching last night.

No different to what any other side would do in that situation. I believe St Bernards and Uni Blacks also rested a truckload of players today. Next weeks result is what matters.

Although in this case it probably cost Scotch's reserves a finals berth. They needed to beat Collegians to get in ahead of Collegians, with the final result being a draw, no doubt missing a few that would have played with a full strength OS senior side playing.

OS..........to "smart by half"......1 down, 1 to go.......

Cheers Cheers for old De La Salle, great work from all involved to keep the team up in "A" for another year. Large numbers of players returning next year and the new coaches game style kicking in. I think the boys from the Bell' will be in for a very strong year in 2015.

Good call there GY. 28 players who played seniors in 2013 did not play in 2014 for a combination of reasons. They had no right to survive, let alone be competitive. I hear a good number of players are returning plus some handy recruits on the radar as well. Staying in ‘A’ grade has certainly made recruiting quality players a lot easier.

Coach is an absolute ripper. Despite the win loss column not looking flash they improved substantially. Lost 3 of their last 5 games by a kick and kept with a full strength St Bernards for 3 ½ quarters at the pit so they are not all that far of the pace.

Interesting that the Scotch v Collegians game will be at Trevor Barker oval. I Can't recall the last time some finals for A grade weren't played at the Wick.

I don't think this is correct.

From the VAFA site...

The VAFA has released the finals schedule for Week 2 of the 2014 VAFA Finals Series.
There has been a change to what occurred last year with the Premier 1st Semi Final between Old Scotch and Collegians to be contested on the same day as the 2nd Semi Final between University Blacks and St Bernards.
The reason for this is VAFA Football Operations Department was keen to have seven day break to all teams going into a preliminary final the following week.
Blacks will play St Bernard's at Sportscover Arena on Saturday whilst Old Scotch and Collegians will meet at Trevor Barker Oval also on the Saturday.

How absurd!!! .....So the Premier VAFA supporter base are now denied the ability to watch 2 games over the weekend, (sat and sund). With this stupid decision only one game now will be possible for the humble supporters to view.
Does anyone realy believe that a team playing on a sat would have that much of an advantage over a team playing on the sund when they meet the following week. Trust the VAFA to get it wrong........sure can.

FWIW here's a weird and wacky idea, why don't Premier finish at the same time as everyone else but have a 4 week finals series???

I guess headquarters wasn't happy at sending B Grade to Sandringham last year.

Very odd decision by HQ - interesting to see what would have happened if OX snuck into 4th...

Cracking games this weekend. My Tips...

Premiers - Uni Blacks
Runners Up - Scotch
Woodrow - Kruse or Bentick
Coaches Award - Humphrey (DLS) or Taft

Old Scotch just never ever disappoint when offering up LOL's. last weeks effort (resting 12) cost their Ressies a finals appearance and gave Collegians seniors all the confidence in the world.
Can't imagine that the names Anderson and Powell would be on anyone's 'phone a friend' list for Eddies show.

Yep never saw this result coming and I honestly thought Scotch would win comfortably. I suppose when you only see them twice a year it is difficult to get a proper handle on teams but based on what I saw I just didn’t rate the Lions. With an older list resting players is sound management if you can afford to do it so would not draw any conclusions from that. Blacks and Bernies did the same last week. Collegians just too good and looking at the number of shots should have won by more. Have hit some form at the right time so well done to them.

Scotch the fancied team in each of the 3 previous 1st semi finals but yet to salute. As we have seen it can difficult to sustain a place at the pointy end of the 'A' grade ladder and they might face some challenges next season.

Disagree with resting. It cost their Ressies a finals appearance. A decision made by 2 coaches with zero respect for a Ressies team and the players who have busted a gut all year. Ressies are not just their to support the senior side. If I was a regular Ressies player at Scotch I would not front up next year. I would go to a club that treated all its players and teams importantly. Disgraceful!

All clubs in a position to do it will and right or wrong I’m not sure that their Reserves making finals was at the forefront of their thinking. Easy to be wise (and critical) after the fact. As mentioned Blacks and Bernies rested players as I’m sure plenty of others clubs did the same.

IMO its so wrong not to think of Ressies.

Fair enough and forums are for opinions. I might be wrong but I just don’t think that when plotting ways to win an ‘A’ grade final you factor in the possible impact on the 2s. I guess we just agree to disagree on the merits of resting players. A final word on the matter (from me anyway) is you need to look at the practice in its entirety rather than in isolation. Uni Blues rested players in their Rd 18 game and then comfortably won their 2nd semi. In this case I guess it was a smart tactical move.
