Angus Pattinson also on way out of Uni Blacks. Chasing country league money, believed to be Kyabram

Every club loses 4-6 players a year. That's not a big number.

Are you including both 1st and 2nd team lists in that 4 - 6. It is, if they are your TOP 4 - 6 and not your BOTTOM 4 -6. I believe these guys will be Prem 1st XV111 players in their top 10.....if so, a big hole.

Just makes the VAFA and players who stick around more endearing.

I couldnt agree more...........There is a direct correlation between the top A grade clubs ( in success) and the amount of games their best /better players play. Their is a loyalty and passion for their respective clubs that is enduring and endearing to those who play around and with them...... Its a binding force..

You can get your "hired gun" (irrespective of what Darwin thinks) and sure he might string a few games together but 9 times out of 10 they bring nothing to a Club after 1 years service or so and if they do leave anything behind its usualy dissalusionment.

Longevity with talent = success and prosperity for any club...

Agree it's heartening to see players play for the love of the game. That said, I can't recall a time when there have been so many competitions who have clubs cashed-up or so many defections. Even the SFL who at one time only had a few clubs with deep pockets are all over VAFA players.

Blues have recruited Rippon's brother from North Ballarat in the VFL.

Tom Roach Carey playing at Balwyn with all the Xavs boys who have gone there. Balwyn must smash it on the bar take. Heard 25k.

Any news on who the Uni Blacks premiership player is that is apparently signing with Aberfeldie in the EDFL?

I would guess Lawrie, the guy who came across to Blacks from WAFL, is joining Luke Blackwell at Abers.....Blacks losing quite a few it seems??

Blacks were such a dominate side last season that they can probably cover a few player losses but a few more big departures and it might bring them back to the field a bit. Uni Blues looking to challenge - Ross Young returning, a TAC Cup Morrish medallist and maybe even Brad Sewell. That’s a scary thought.

Any news from the Snakepit? For most of last season it looked a 2 horse race between St Bernards and Uni Blacks. Have heard unsubstantiated reports that Merrington hanging them up and Chad Jones might be non-starter due to VFL coaching commitments. His absence in the prelim was massive when it clashed with a VFL final.

It is Laurie. Big loss for the Blacks. In their top 3 players. Kruse will play VFL and at Blacks otherwise.

Blues and DLS seem to have made the biggest gains.

Blues have the services of Rippon, possibly Glesson, possibly Sewell and Ross Young is also going to be back.

Blues will be interesting. They were relegated with Ross Young in the side, so he's not going to be the difference maker on his own that's for sure. Adding Rippon helps, but the other names are not confirmed by any stretch. Having said that, one of the stronger teams to have ever been relegated two years ago, and it showed last season, so they should be able to slot straight back into A grade no problems.

I haven't heard about the losses yet so won't make any prediction on whether they will challenge for the four.

I suspect that next season will be another fairly even season. I don't see that anyone will be head and shoulders above the pack, and there doesn't seem to be anyone haemorrhaging players (yet).

I've heard whispers/facts about most clubs so far, but haven't heard anything from OT yet.

The following is from St Bernards website - looks like Jones playing again and they have a new former AFL/WAFL forward it seems -

Chris Davis game day responsibility will shift form mids to forwards in 2014/15. Chris role as game day forward coach will be assisted on game day by Chad Jones as well as our new recruit, Adam Campbell, former Fremantle and West Perth key forward , who is joining his cousins (Caven’s and Considine’s) at St. Bernards in 2014/15; a raft of experience to assist with our forward setup.

Campbell looks a handy pick up and I guess Jones some weeks is better than no weeks. Bernie’s not far off it last season and with some good U19s coming through they will be thereabouts again.
Agree re Uni Blues. To win 7 games in 2012 and get relegated they were very stiff. Lost a few others by close margins from memory. Some good additions and will be handful.

De La have been fairly proactive in announcing some news on their website. Tom and Xavier Murphy the big ones but some very good regular senior players back next season including Jack Vickers, Ben Humphrey, Tyson Hunt, Sam Brooks, Sam Nethersole, Brendan Close, Leigh Harrison and some others. The only loss I am aware of is a big one. After being courted for several years by a range of VFL clubs 2014 B & F Tom Humphrey looks likely to be listed by Collingwood. Super young player who will be hard to replace.

So would Adam Campbell coming in further suggest that Merrington has hung up the boots?

Interesting Blues have put out a press release re the possibility re Sewell. May be a bit of gamesmanship in this as i believe they are not the only A grade team in the mix, let alone other competitions. I hope it comes back to bite them like their lindsay Gilbee anouncement did two seasons ago
