Premier A - 2015

I hadn't bothered to take a close look at next year's fixture until today, and I notice that Old Xavs have their first three games of the season at home.

Good to see VAFA HQ doing all that they can to help out an ailing club!

Ailing? No such thing in A Grade.
I'm sure they will have 9 away games, including a tough run of three in a row somewhere. Chilax

Ladder Prediction - Season 2015

Just for fun and discussion purposes......and obviously this will be wrong, but here goes

TOP 5 - Who knows where they actually may finish, but these 5 to fight for a top 4 September spot

Collegians - seemingly losing nobody of note, getting back some quality = why will they drop off?
St Bernards - look at 2nds/1sts home and away in 2014 = depth. Not losing many (maybe 1 or 2 to VFL), and gaining a quality fwd PLUS a great crop of U19s - will be thereabouts again
Uni Blacks - losing plenty BUT have depth as well, and expect them to gain some as off-field Blacks have their act together. Quality squad and will remain competitive.
De La Salle - my "bolter" purely on strength of getting some quality players back, despite loss of gun to Collingwood VFL (I believe) and they are well coached
Old Xavs - outstanding finish to season 2014. Losing plenty of quality (Waller, Goss, Ambrose) will hurt but Xavs have depth as well......maybe replace Xavs with Uni Blues??

Next 3 - just don't expect them to drop, and don't know enough about them

Uni Blues - clearly a "mid" A-grade side in B grade last season....if they pick up a few and retain their list, they'll be fighting to replace one of the teams above (maybe Xavs?)
Old Scotch - losing a few quality (Passador and a HFwd?) players and 19's were average - expect to struggle
Old Trinity - need to retain their list as their depth is not great...I believe have lost 1 or 2 talls which may leave them exposed....might struggle to match outstanding 2014 early season form

Relegation Candidates

Beaumaris - Petering moving due to work, will they retail Manson? Admittedly I have heard little of them thus far in terms of recruiting, so they just "fall" to hear in terms of this silly December guess
Old Carey - just not enough depth (losing Roach to EFL is a killer) and were not a great standout in B grade in 2014. Will struggle with the step up to A grade.

Will be interesting to see if Beauy pick up any St Bedes players.

Not sure they will lose many, if any to Beaumaris. Most St Bedes boys with links to the Sharks already play there. Have heard however they might lose a few a couple to the SFL – Cheltenham and Mordialloc in particular. Despite this they will be strong in B grade if they can retain most of their list. Shaikaib and a few other handy types back I believe.

Beaumaris have made impressive starts in each of the past 2 seasons before ultimately finishing well down the ladder. Really need to add some quality and win away from home more regulary if they are to compete with the very best sides. Have heard they have lost their best player (Petering), which is not a great result for them.

Just wondering, what is the standard of club amateur football like in the other two states (SA and WA), when comparing to its Victorian counterparts?

Ordinary.

I believe one of the main reasons the VAFA stopped playing interstate matches was due to the inferior quality of the WAAFL and SAAFL Rep. Teams.

Hampton Rovers would probably beat them though.

About 12 years ago, the WAAFL decided not to play open age representative football because of being uncompetitive. The WAAFL were agreeable to an Under 23 representative concept, so the Under 23 series of games replacing the open age, was commenced between WAAFL. SAAFL and the VAFA, later expanding to a carnival in Adelaide a couple of years or thereabouts ago with Tasmania joining the competition.

Well, the good news is that Hampton Rovers would be top notch in the WAAFL!!In the SAAFL they would be lower(relegation zone) in the top division. This years two dominant teams(Goodwood and Rostrevor OC) would be on a par with a team like SKOB.Goodwood were probably flattered a bit by the fact they had Shane Tuck playing for them this year!

Are you suggesting SKOB are significantly better than Rovers? Cos if you are I'd challenged that on what I saw this year.

I only saw Rovers twice this year:practice game against Mordi(yes,i know) and in a home ground loss to Peninsula.Even if they are better than that they wouldn't be top four of SAAFL.I have seen Rostrevor play on 5 occasions over the past 2 years and have regularly watched VAFA(A grade) over a long period. At the end of the day its just 1 opinion!

AM, obviously have had a few over the Christmas break, C Grade was the worst it has been in a long, long time. Wouldn't get within 15 - 20 goals of SKOB

Yep. SKOB beat Carey rd 18 by 12 plus goals. Carey going to A.
Big diff between better B teams and anyone in C last year. Was a weak C.

To give you an idea of the massive gap in class between WA and Victoria in amateur football, back in 2003 Victoria went over to Perth to play WA in a AAFC Championship game at Subiaco Oval. The Vics thrashed WA by over 20 goals, with the Sandgropers not kicking a goal at all throughout the whole game. It was then decided to revert the AAFC Championships to Under 23 level, and two years later, Victoria would lose to WA and SA at, of all places..Melbourne. In fact, WA's win over the Vics at EP was the first time any WA side at any level of amateur state footy had beaten the Big V in Melbourne.

Why ask the question in the first place yesterday if you knew the answer?

Loving your work there Jase. Ever thought of taking up a position as SCRIBE for the Amateurs. Hedgey could give you a few clues - he writes with passion and can string some good "frases" together according to Brian.

SKOB by a mile, Uni Blues solid top 4, 2015.

Pick your top 4 and Grand Finalists for 2015.

Here's mine:
