Therein lies the issue. Carey have as good a best 6 to 8 as most teams and Rowe would be a GUN in VAFA Prem, so that probably does mean they are competitive. BUT depth is still required. Prem is a tight, quality comp. Not according to the Port Melbourne website. Rowe was a stand out in the VAFA before going to Port and it would be huge for Carey if he were to play for them.
While there are some legit questions about their depth they have some super players at the top end. If they can keep them on the park I think they can go ok next season.

Part of the depth problem is the size of the school and what comes from the school. Since Carey went co ed the pool has halved and to add to the problem many students from other sporting backgrounds.Agreed. Rowe, Rice, Smithwick, McQ-Mis, Crozier, Howat, Rimmington, Bongetti are a great top 8. 14-30 the problem. Are a week Ressies club even in lower grades over the years.
Who's got some predictions?

Agree with what you say but difficult to "recruit" 2nds players. You recruit players to play in your firsts, the others are just what's available from your home grown roots. Just my opinion..... Panthers to be middle of the road.
Uni Blues - I know you critics are going to go to town on this call but they were unlucky to drop in 2013 and were super in B lat season. With Young back and list retention they will go close to making the four.
Old Trinity will be ok again. Some quality kids and another year of Prem A experience should see them develop.
Dela to finish close behind this five. Have got a few back but will still lack quality key position players. If Humphrey plays at Pies VFL regularly that will surely hurt their chances. Need a tall fwd and tall def.
Yep! Depth is their problem. Probably not on their Pat Malone's in that respect though.FWIW we have been saying this about Carey for nearly 10 years. Their top players get the job done, if they remain fit don't worry about their bottom 6. Will be competitive if that is the case otherwise drop drop.
Seeing this year marks the 20th anniversary of Old Xaverians rise to power, out of the 6 premierships they won in that amazing streak (1995-2000), if you could select one premiership as the standout, which one would it be?

Despite the Xavs' departures, if these three transfer to Toorak Park then they'd have to be a threat again:
Luke Ball
Tyson Thomas -
homas depature completes Blues list update
by Matthew Lodge (@MatthewSLodge)
Northern Blues vice-captain Tyson Thomas announced to the club of his decision to retire from VFL football after six years in the Northern Bullants/Blues system.
Thomas’ departure completes the final leavings from the 2014 Senior List as the Northern Blues 2015 squad returns for the first session of the year at VISY Park tonight.
Marcus Carroll - East Burwood
The word is that Luke Ball won't be, and Marcus Carroll is already a Xavs player, but didn't play all of last year and less than half of 2013 due to work commitments (not sure if he played elsewhere).

I have no mail whatsoever on Tyson Thomas.

So to summarise some of what we know for fact (and rumour) so far on some of the bigger name player movements. Let's try and fill in some of the blanks as i've heard less this year than other years on comings and goings (time to name names people): -
Old Xavs
Ins - Luke Ball? Marcus Carroll (kind of new), Tyson Thomas?
Outs - Chris Waller, Murphy Ambrose, Brendan Goss
De La Salle
Ins - Xavier Murphy, Tom Murphy, Tyson Hunt, Ben Humphrey, Brendan Close, Sam Nethersole, Paulie Johnson
Outs - Tom Humphrey (potentially)
Old Scotch
Ins - ?
Outs - Mark Passador
Beaumaris
Ins - ?
Outs - Matthew Petering
Old Trinity
Ins - ?
Outs - ?
Uni Blues
Ins - Nick Rippon, Ross Young, George Cameron, Brad Sewell (has this rumour died yet?)
Outs - ?
Old Carey
Ins - Luke Crozier, James Rimington, Julian Rowe
Outs - Tom Roach
St Bernards
Ins - Adam Campbell
Outs Merrington? (maybe retiring)
Uni Blacks
Ins - ?
Outs - Steven Blake, Angus Locke, Jesse Laurie
Collegians
Ins - ?
Outs - ?
To the Da La ins you can include the returning Sam Haslem (NEAFL), Mark Collins (OH), Jack Vickers (Bairnsdale), Hugh Nicholson (East Burwood) and Leigh Harrison (Kilcunda-Bass). All potential senior players. A few others of varying ability unconfirmed. While some ground to make up the depth will be substantially better in 2015.
To the possible outs young Adrian Indovino looks likely to be listed by C ‘Wood VFL but like Tom Humphrey the number of games they will play is obviously unknown. If the pies senior list stays healthy you would expect they might play a few VAFA games.
I’m sure other clubs have plenty of other additions we don’t know about. Kruse (UB) to the VFL?
Sewell committed yet?I'll have a crack at a final ladder:
Top a Four in no order
Uni Blacks - may be losing a few but will gain a couple to stay well in contention.
St Bernard's - some great young kids to fill their already strong squad, will always be hard to beat at the pit.
Collegians - If it's true that Ferguson is returning amongst a couple of others they will be there come business end of the season. Ferguson will dominate after two strong years at pies VFL.
Uni Blues - I know you critics are going to go to town on this call but they were unlucky to drop in 2013 and were super in B lat season. With Young back and list retention they will go close to making the four.
Old Trinity will be ok again. Some quality kids and another year of Prem A experience should see them develop.

Old Xavs I believe are on the slide. You may well prove me wrong boys but school has struggled of late, 19s not the power they once were.
Old Carey will be competive if their best can stay fit and healthy. Rowe huge get.
Old Scotch - I believe this might be the year that they fall. After promising so much and failing to deliver they are due a slump. Heard a few may be headed o/s also and Jamieson to play more at Footscray.
Beaumaris - Des Haynes/B Royal appointment great! However list is shallow, Petering gone. Need at least six new genuine recruits.
Rooster, any comments on this:

A sad day indeed. Bidding has started for stadium naming rights !
