Have to disagree with that statement Les, from my opinion beauy have two or three of young small forwards they are already getting games into. Let's not forget Milne stats in the big time are remarkable for a small forward. The knowledge and confidence he distills in those around him is immense. In fact, he personally knows some of those youngsters he is playing alongside. He has a vested interest in the club and I would have no doubt have a helping in the development of the youth coming through at Beauy. Yes they could go up without him, but I think learning off him and having him around will make Beauy better off in the long term. Just an opinion

FWIW I couldn't agree more, that is why it irks me that people have a crack at ex-AFL players going back to the ammos without any knowledge of behind the scenes of what some of these guys do to help the younger players.

Can anyone see the ladder changing too much ?
I think the top 3 stay top 3 come round 18. Will back Scotch in to finish top, then Beauy, then St Bedes.
Haileybury, Ajax and Monash fighting for 4th in my opinion.
Hampton will drop. Can see Brighton winning enough at Beach Rd to stay, leaving Parky and Fitzroy in a battle to stay in B.

Could be an interesting year teams 4th-9th look pretty even and depends on injuries. Could be a year where 10 wins gets you finals and could still get relegated with 6-7 wins. Parkdale did beat Monash by 7 goals two weeks ago.

Agreed. I fear for Hampton though. They have already been pumped by some average teams and have Beauy this week, then St Bedes and Scotch over the next 3.

From what I've seen, I think Fitzroy will struggle to win 6. They are odds on to finish 9th for mine. 4-8 are pretty even.

St bedes too good in the second half. Tackled their way back into it after Monash got out to a handy lead just before half time. Big number 5 for the Tigers was superb.

Nah can't have Haileybury. Not enough depth. I think it will be real tight and parkdale might sneak into 4th.

this comps over. beauy/scotch far better than the rest. V's obviously hurting from Boland not bagging plenty but will still be there or there abouts come the business end. st bedes could scare the top 2 but the quality of beauy will be too strong and win it this year for mine

Let's not forget st bedes beat scotch and played beauy off a 4 day break at oak street with a far lesser side then the one they played scotch with the week before , as for 4th not sold on haileybury but the wins they banked early on could help them at the back end of the home and away season

Haileybury also lacked depth 10 years ago when they beat Old Xavs 4 times in a season on way to Premier A premiership. #foodforthought.

Very open season. Scotch, Beauy both very beatable from what I have seen. Saying its a 2 horse race is silly IMHO. Anyone who makes finals can win it. Obviously sides that have double chance will get the best chance to make the GF and progress to the top echelon.

Their top end talent in 2006 was exceptional and covered a lack of depth. Same could not be said the following season when they got relegated without winning a game.

You simply cannot compare the 2006 and 2015 teams and depth is certainly a problem.

The problem OH had was all their top end talent were all hired guns. When they walked, they had nothing. Disenfranchised the schools input
from the year 12 leavers...Still to recover..

Never compared the teams. Said it in the context of saying depth isnt always an issue

Incorrect

Which part is incorrect? They certainly got relegated after 2007 and finished a distant last so that cannot be in dispute.

My memory might be fading but I have a recollection of them going winless. If they did manage a win it would have been only 1 or 2. Doubt their reserves won a game for the season either.

OH ressies are pretty poor this year. Even the bottom few of their seniors are average. Hopefully they don't get any injuries, otherwise it will be a long back end of the season.

Think haileybury suffer the same as similar sides like Carey and caulfield in that they are mixed gender schools that also perhaps attract more for academic purposes as opposed to sporting prowess? Not suggesting other APS/ags schools don't priortize academia as much, more so a more rounded student with a higher priority on things such as sport? There's some food for thought!

That, and the fact that them and Caulfield give sports scholarships and those players usually go on to play AFL, leaving only a couple of good players (if that) per year level. 100% does not help that they are co-ed. All 3 schools have done well to be in Premier section over the past 5 years.

Couldn't be further from the truth re sports scholarships and Haileybury Penski. They are in trouble with the APS from poaching a couple of gun football players from MGS and Brighton Grammar just this year.

Hansie not penski Brian. Sorry, didn't mean no scholarships given out at all, was more referring to the general population, given that a lot of scholarship boys end up playing even a higher level than vafa prem, as winter game said. Was more a comparison with the catholic schools where footy is like religion (I'm a Mick myself BTW)

The opening statement is just plain wrong. The Bloods started to build the 2006 A Grade Premiership team from about 2001 whilst still in B Grade. In 2005 they were A Grade minor premiers when last round injuries to O'Farrell and Corrigan arguably cost them the premiership. Yes, there were about seven outside (and very good recruits) but the majority of the team were out of the school. The captain, Corrigan (ex Geelong) and Jenke the Woodrow Medalist in 2006 were both out of the school. Having won the premiership, 8 or 9 of that team decided that they had achieved what they had set out to do and called it a day. Pleasingly, even those members of that team who weren't home grown still regularly turn up to see the current crop go round.
In 2007, without the depth to replace those who left, they struggled, only winning two games and were relegated before being promoted again briefly 3 years later. Although the School is just about the largest in Oz, it's spread over 3 campuses with the two larger ones a long way from Princes Park Caulfield. The changing demographics and co-ed mix of the students will ensure that maintaining depth at the footy club will be a challenge.

Some years back, Haileybury wrote the book on "sports scholarships". They over did it, got burnt and pulled back. Mixed gender is a crap argument.
Multi campuses dont help though....Wesley is mixed gender and they seem to do OK...
