As we depart the 2019's and head to the 2020's very interesting to look at the ladder for the past decade....Collegians and Xavs won exactly the same amount of games....there were only 17 clubs that took part in Premier of which only one (Beaumaris) was a suburban club...no surprises there....the flags were shared amongst six different sides...only 3 sides spent the whole decade in Premier...and the SKOBBERS came with a late burst to register the highest winning % of all the teams at 70% over their fours years in the top flight.....will be interesting to compare this to the next 10 years.....

Good effort from DeLa considering not huge on getting high profile names in.

The gossip is the Claret-n-Stouts are very hopeful of landing Jordan Lewis, but not so hopeful of snagging any silverware.
If he plays it will be sparingly at best.

Not sure this helps Xavs.

Xavs don't need anymore 6 point players, especially if Schoenmakers is going there.

hey many 6 point players do they have?

Been told vafa clubs finding loop holes around the points system.

Claiming players went to school or university there etc.

It’s not that they are finding loopholes in the rules, rather that the rules need tightening up. Xavs actually got knocked off for attributing incorrect points to an ex-student as the one-point rule required 2 years attendance, not one as was the case in that example.

Most of the grievances seem to relate to the very generous university-based concessions which Uni Blues exploited beautifully. They acted within the rules so no fault on their part but understand the 1-point qualification for students is being reviewed. Xavs and Uni Blues played right on the limit last year so unless they shed some players they don’t not much room to move.

The questionable interpretation of player points values in other comps has apparently been rampant.

about 4-5 sides on the premier of EFL were at max points every week this year.

The system is a joke.

Im still trying to work out how an amateur competition can enforce a points system on clubs at all. Why hasn’t anyone taken it to court as it would fall over in a second.

Because the Big 4 would employ as many ex AFL players as possible so they play for them at 2pm on a Saturday and lift up the cup. VAFA is about boasting to other men over 40 about your team winning the flag isn’t it. Could be wrong.

I think only Blues would do that, Haileybury showed that a model like that it fraught with danger. Regardless, my point is players aren’t paid and the pings cap was brought in by AFL Vic to curb the likes of Vermont, Noble Park, Euroa etc and save the smaller clubs who didn’t have the finances to compete.

Your club being in a lower grade would no doubt be pissed off with what’s going on at the top . You seem to have a different perspective on what your thoughts are .

The VAFA needs a points system to stop the already strong clubs getting even stronger. The PPAs for premier section clubs should be about 35 points. The current system heavily favours VAFA clubs when compared to clubs in the professional leagues, that's why we attract so many former AFL players

I’m a lover of the VAFA, GI, even your old sparring partner bedford
FWIW(sorry FWIW), I don’t like the paying competitions at all, there’s a lot of talented people who are left on the scrap heap at age 30. It’s good to see that Sam Grimley left the NFL and came to the VAFA, albeit he picked a shit club!

Coincidentally a SKOB supporter (who disappeared from these parts around the same time as your introduction) said exactly the same thing. Even suggested his club had some “QC’s” in the starting blocks ready to take it on. Never happened though so I guess AFL Vic were on solid ground after all.

Skobs will be the best team in the history of the comp in 2020. Nicholls and Jok returning. 3 others becoming full time including Kanakis. Boyd, Kerr coming in to play with Waite and Brown. They deserve an enormous amount of credit as this team will have weeks where they dominate and play well under the points limit

Just two like minds, with identical views and who write in a similar fashion, JJ. Nothing to see here. Play on!
