Just wondering peoples thoughts on how close Collingwood are to their 15th premiership. Do you see success in the next in the next few years with the young at the Pies or are we closer to our last?

I can see us winning the Flag Next Season:thumbsu:

at least two flags over the next 8 seasons... maxwell to captain at least 1... now is when players like pendles, thomas and cloke make a real statement and become true superstars... i have a real positive view on our future... 2009 is our year...

I see us getting one in the next 4 seasons, and 2 in the next 10.

It seems the club is completely focused on a premiership in the next 3 years, from most of the recent club publications it has mentioned in it that we are going for it all guns in the next three seasons. Hopefully we can pull it off. :D

i am in this camp as well bar minimum 1 in 5 years but we have the talent for 2 in that time

To rain on the multiple premiership parades. There have been many dominate sides Essendon 2000. Wce 05 06 etc who have went on to only win one premiership. Being the best side over a long period of time doesn't gaurantee you multiple premierships.

Anyway back to the topic. I don't think we are ready this year there is going to be a real need for transition from Burns Presti Rocca to the likes of J-Mac, Sidebottom Dawes, Reid etc.

2010 will be the real indicator IMO. It may not be when we win one but it is when we are likely to see whether we have placed our chips in the right spot. From then if we have it right there is probably a three to four year window of oppertunity in which we can do any rearranging. If that fails it's back to the drawing board and another long wait.

The problem is WCE and Carlton inparticular will be looking at that period too. Geelong and Hawthorn will still be in thier window of oppertunity too. So how it all works out is still a huge question mark.

So you saying we could have a Carlton vs Collingwood GF in the near future?

If we have a midfield by 2010 we will be much more rounded than WC and Carlton who will still have KP deficiencies

It's a possiblity Dave but I am not saying I expect it. They will be amongst a run of 5 or so clubs who would now think that in that period they have a window of oppertunity.

I think WCE are very underrated in regards to their youth the Judd trade has put them in a very strong position in regards to their rebuild. McKinley, Kennedy (who I didn't rate but really suprised me this year. Gave N Brown a bath in a game where they lost by 100 points) Masten Priddis Swift NicNat Ebert Mitch Brown there is a fairly good list of young top end talent in there.

Cockles, heart, warmed.

WCE did the best out of the draft this year as well so look out for them in next few years, but still think they are a step or two behind us in development. Hawthorn is our greatest bogey team, so a bit of luck with the finals fixture will be invaluable for us. Hopefully the Tigers or some such can knock them out before a GF.

I hope we can give it a real shake next season, but realisticly i think 2010-2011 will be the years when we will be real threats and our players like Thomas, Pendlebury and Cloke will start to reach their prime and dominate the competition.

I just hope we win one soon, but i guarentee when we do I will be the happiest person alive.

Go PIES!

Midfields win premierships these days not KPs. Carlton's vastly superior midfield is why we couldn't beat them this year. We also don't have a KP in the same class as Fevola, so we don't have much of an advantage in that area either.

Yeah but a midfield with key positions will always beat a midfield without.. ala Franklin/Roughead in the GF against Geelong

If Cloke Dawes Rusling Brown Anthony Reid are as good as we hope and the new midfield brigade becomes elite we will be a far more complete outfit than most
